Does not atone for our slain, betrayed treacherously.

2. They killed Ibn Hurra on the Day of Raji‘,
A brother of trust and pure loyalty.

3. Had they all been killed on the Day of Raji‘
By Dhu l-Dibri they'd not equal him in worth.

4. A slain man whose death Dhu l-Dibri avenged
At the homes of the faithless, overt and covert.

5. Lihyan killed one nobler than themselves
And sold Khubyab after him for a pittance.

6. Curse Lihyan in any circumstance!
To name them is worst praise in any mention.

7. A tribe arrogating treachery and baseness
Whose baseness stealth does not conceal.

8. If they are killed, their blood will not
Avenge us. No, slaying the killers cures me.

9. If I do not raid Hudhayl with a daring raid,
Like a warrior plunging with courage into the fray,

10. By the Messenger of God's command—his command
Makes coward Lihyan tremble with destruction,

11. They will face the Day of Raji‘ as though they are
Fox skins with no fur, devoid of any warmth.
