1. If only there were in the house a respected elder
Guardian of truth, whose company would bring comfort
١. لَو كانَ في الدارِ قَرمٌ ذو مُحافَظَةٍ
حامي الحَقيقَةِ ماضٍ خالُهُ أَنَسُ
2. Then you would have dwelled, my dear, in a spacious abode
And not been shackled by chains and guards
٢. إِذاً حَلَلتَ خُبَيبٌ مَنزِلاً فُسِحاً
وَلَم يُشَدَّ عَلَيكَ الكَبلُ وَالحَرَسُ
3. And not been led to bliss by the rude hands
Of those whose friendship has vanished like mirage
٣. وَلَم يَسُقكَ إِلى التَنعيمِ زِعنِفَةٌ
مِنَ المَعاشِرِ مِمَّن قَد نَفَت عُدُسُ
4. Have patience, my dear, for death by treachery
Is but a passage to the Gardens of Heavenly bliss
٤. صَبراً خُبَيبُ فَإِنَّ القَتلَ مَكرُمَةٌ
إِلى جِنانِ نَعيمٍ يَرجُعُ النَفَسُ
5. They lured you by deceit, themselves steeped in dishonor
While you are wronged, imprisoned in this house
٥. دَلّوكَ غَدراً وَهُم فيها أُلو خُلُفٍ
وَأَنتَ ضَيمٌ لَها في الدارِ مُحتَبَسُ
