1. I recalled the union of white hair and gray hair prevalent,
And the home of youth from that time is without foundation.

2. Love wandered and became different,

3. Perhaps one day love will double for you
So it brings together the two sides of a fold for you.

4. O Khālid, no need arises for us
With the mention of you but tears flow from me.

5. And I lent Laylā love then she did not want
To reward my loan though loans are deposits.

6. A need set out for you between Thahmad
And Mudhay’ and the necks of the riding camels are bent.

7. They fatten just as the ostriches fattened the young ostriches
Sheltering them from gray hair, a generous gray hair.

8. Why did you not fear God when she was forbidden
He went ahead then threw down his luggage so he lies down?

9. And without him is misguidance as if its appearance
Settles with the likes so they are mediators.

10. My camel yearns after calm and her madness
And a flash on the one with chains shining.

11. So I said to her, “Restrain your yearning for I
Am competing with the people of Najd from Tihāmah.”

12. Her hump sways with love as if it is
An intestine flowing in the pot of fat.

13. Does the high ground not live from the place of green plants
And where love surrounded the creek full of trees?

14. You are safe and floods of heavy rain came to you
For you are a valley for loved ones, a uniter.

15. So I did not see, O son of Qaram, like today a view
That one with a need goes beyond and it is obeying.

16. Do you forget what we intend for the love of meeting you
And our emigration while the desert is submissive dust?

17. O Banū Qayn, you met a courageous man in the mountain pass
A well-trained young man whom predators fear.

18. For you are Qayn and son of two Qayns so be patient
When the prospects are blocked from you.

19. And when I saw people, their dogs fled
So I was isolated when none took my side but the escorts.

20. And I prepared in the horizons every ode
Of one wandering and returning, every group contends.

21. They turn aside to Najrān, those who were inferior to him
And they appear in Najd while they are submissive.

22. The likes of rhymes appeared as if they are
Clouds rising above a pasture so they overlook.

23. You came desiring the stalls so we have
Stalls for whoever seeks stalls, it is capacious.

24. My she-camels bask behind me at Qinā’
And our custom is courage the day we fight.

25. We have a difficult mountain on which there is awe
Inaccessible in stony ground, towering.

26. And in Hayy are those who bask when they sun themselves
And in battle armors preventing harm.

27. We have among Banī Saʿd impregnable mountains
And an open plain in the courtyard of honor, capacious.

28. And the notables of Saʿd strut with a refuge
With them at the doors of kings we defend.

29. Saʿd has guiding she-camels with which guidance is taken
And protection for whoever seeks protection, conversant.

30. And protection that none but Furayna protected
And none but the son of Dhū l-Kurayn protected while it wasted.

31. Mālik saw the nobility of al-Farazdaq, it fell short
Of glory when there is no contention for excess, a rival.

32. He persisted until it was affirmed between his nose
And between the space of his eyebrows, calamities.

33. I see gray hair has risen on the face of al-Farazdaq
From the defeater of monkeys, fortunes humbled him.

34. And you, O Farazdaq, are the son of Qayn, so flourish
With your skill, for skill is useful for Qayn.

35. For if you blow with your skill, we prepare
The spears and horses the day we fight.

36. When the excess of hostility extends, the son of Furayna falls
And the merchant feels loss while al-Farazdaq ascends.

37. And as for Banū Saʿd, if you say, “Listen
So I can chant satire about them,” it will split your snout.

38. I saw you, when God did not suffice you with riches,
You resorted to Qays while your cheek petitions.

39. The glory of al-Farazdaq is only his skill
And he has a treasure in the two side pouches.

40. Qayn of Saʿṣaʿa says, “Intercede for me, O Laylā
Regarding what is behind the skill for Qayn’s advocate.”

41. When one day the women of Mujāshiʿ bare their faces
An ugliness appears from what their veils used to conceal.

42. Their nostrils like the snouts of black domed pigs
Their mouths from the stupidity of pigs as if

43. They are sounding amidst their chins, frogs.
Umm al-Baʿīth has bent and been forced

44. To hiss until vipers moved her jaws.
Women of Mujāshiʿ other than al-Fiyāsh have known

45. To whom the scintillating stars go.
We have the builders of glory, so glory is built for us

46. And a defender when the spears and predators redden.
Do you equate noble lineages? Their protectors

47. To your lineages? I, to God, shall return.
My people are more protective of truth than you

48. And I strike the tyrant and the swords flash.
And I steady myself by the packsaddles at night

49. Overtaking when the sword is bared shining.
And I am an impregnable neighbor and best in villages

50. When the stars shine through the abode.
With white Mirhafah swords which when they are bared

51. The deaths therein shine.
There had crept among you, O sons of KhajKhaj,

52. A camel driver for al-Zubayr, preventing.
And your neighbor on the Day of al-Ḥawāriyy was

53. Conversations that fell silent from their gossip.
You passed the night eating pigs as if you are

54. Repudiated one time and another you return.
Gabriel vilifies the faces of Mujāshiʿ

55. And the Hāwāriyyūn predict the rising of stars.
When it is said which people are the worst tribe

56. And greatest in dishonor, it is said, “Those are Mujāshiʿ.”
So ʿAwf rose armed and Mujāshiʿ spread

57. The fraying of pigs at daybreak.
You regretted the day of the two horse races after

58. You were shamed but no shame of yours was rebutted.
For you are not the people the day I ransomed

59. Them forcefully while al-Samharī contends.
We split the brow of Ibn Muḥarriq

60. So those eyes did not blink.
And a people did not spend the night guarantying blood for us

61. Then fulfilled for us except blood, mediators.
You lived spreading pigs as if you are

62. Repudiated at times and at times you return.

63. And the Hāwariyyūn predict the rising stars.
When it is said, “Who are the worst people as a tribe

64. And greatest in dishonor?” It is said, “Those are Mujāshiʿ.”
