The camel litters leaned as they prepared for the ascent

3. When the bleating mountain goats crossed the stony ground
Extending their udders in gentle throbs

4. The she-camels come on their hands and feet
As if they were ostriches of the barren desert

5. I am the protector when the horses sniff
The bells fall on saddles over soft coats

6. With every dark, long-necked camel
The hands of the drivers prod and guide

7. I take refuge in a deaf, rugged boulder
That calls to pilgrims when its rocky slopes tumble down

8. I was told of a kept secret, its arrows intended for me
Oh secret, you are a willful, uncaptured gazelle

9. What did you think of Bani Maytha that they panicked
At night when the valley's snake startled them

10. Abu Layla runs to kill me unjustly
In ignorance of me, and without avenging Shaddad

11. The son of Hindabah lingered in wealth
Quenching his thirst but not called to bring joy

Neither shelter for the exiled nor the departing flag

Are deadly snakes from every twisting coil
