1. Al-Farazdaq has no glory to take refuge in
Except the Banu ‘Amr whose hands wield clubs
١. ما لِلفَرَزدَقِ مِن عِزٍّ يَلوذُ بِهِ
إِلّا بَنو العَمِّ في أَيديهِمُ الخَشَبُ
2. Proceed O Banu ‘Amr, for the marshes are your abode
The Tigris knows you not, nor do the Arabs recognize you
٢. سيروا بَني العَمِّ فَالأَهوازُ مَنزِلُكُم
وَنَهرُ تيرى فَلَم تَعرِفكُمُ العَرَبُ
3. Wielders of palms unsheathing not their sickles
From unripe dates, nor does fatigue burden them
٣. الضارِبو النَخلَ لا تَنبو مَناجِلُهُم
عَنِ العُذوقِ وَلا يُعيِيهِمُ الكَرَبُ
