1. The women bid me guard my neighbor's honor
And I prevent him though he feels no need
١. وَأَوصاني الحَريمُ بِعِزِّ جاري
وَأَمنَعُهُ وَلَيسَ بِهِ اِمتِناعُ
2. I ward off harm and shield him when in danger
And guard him still when guards no more succeed
٢. وَأَدفَعُ ضَيمَه وَأَذودُ عَنهُ
وَأَمنَعُهُ إِذا اِمتَنَعَ المِناعُ
3. Oh father I implore you, leave this matter
When one so brave appeals for sanctuary
٣. فِدىً لَكُمُ أَبي عَنهُ تَنَحّوا
لِأَمرٍ ما اِستَجارَ بِيَ الشُجاعُ
4. Do not take on yourself a fleeing refugee's blood
Though hirelings may pursue him angrily
٤. وَلا تَتَحَمَّلوا دَمَ مُستَجيرٍ
تَضَمَّنَهُ أُجَيرَةُ فَالتِلاعُ
5. For what you see is but a surface matter
With secrets underneath none can decree
٥. فَإِنَّ لما تَرَونَ خَفِيَّ أَمرٍ
لَهُ مِن دونِ أَمرِكُم قِناعُ
