1. After Zaydan the fortress became impregnable
And was made of solid stone, completely deaf
١. أَبَعْدَ زَيْدَانَ أَمْسَى قَرْقَرًا جَلَدًا
وكان مِن جَنْدَلٍ أَصَمَّ مَنْضُودَا
2. The people could not hear any of their talking
Except whispers, with voices restrained
٢. لا يَسْمَعُ القومُ فيه كُلَّ مَنْطِقِهِمْ
إلا سِرَارًا تَخَالُ الصَّوتَ مَرْصُودَا
3. My friends and I hastily got up
To offer you our necks, hearts, and hands
٣. قامتْ رِقَاشِ وأصحابي على عَجَلٍ
تُبْدِي لك النَّحْرَ والَّلباتِ والجِيدَا
