1. O sister of Kindah, leave the drinking of Uthman,
And intend for the Banu Auf to emigrate.

2. O sister of Kindah, go on an angry journey,
So we may seek refuge for my and your anger.

3. O sister of Kindah, the sustenance is not in his hands,
The sustenance is in the hands of the One who could have made me rich if He willed.

4. The water in Uthman's house has a price,
And the bread in it has prestige.

5. Uthman knows that praise has a price,
But he desires praise for free.

6. And people are too clever to praise a man
Until they see signs of his good deeds.

7. Wash your hands with natron and make them very clean,
Like the washing of janabah from the kindness of Uthman.

8. And arm yourself against every Uthman you pass by,
Except the caliph Uthman ibn Affan.
