1. Your arrival revived the pasture of generosity and munificence,
And we were delighted by the return of your auspicious days.

2. You came while the drought had prolonged its absence,
With the rainclouds continuously pouring down between two rains.

3. The land shook with joy and was adorned with delight,
And every creature rejoiced with glad tidings.

4. By Allah, the horoscope of fortune that came with you
On a day of celebration, to meet you, was witnessed.

5. Your noble visage did not rise upon us,
Until you became a full moon, flawless and unmatched.

6. Until you strutted about in robes of honor,
That made the necks of lions bow down before you.

7. Indeed, the Caliph—may God make his rule eternal—
Saw you as most deserving of honor and glory.

8. Eyes from his guardianship observed you,
With which water flows smoothly before repetition.

9. And he did not hesitate to grant you a status,
In which all your enviers became utterly envied.

10. So today you are but one of his making,
Remaining the unique pearl, the singular ingot.

11. Implore God in gratitude, thereby increasing
Blessings, which their Giver has never diminished.

12. Tend your meadows while the appointed tasks preoccupy you,
For your like is a tender, unwearied and tireless.

13. Indeed, the state of our Master the Counselor
Is founded on pillars of care and construction.

14. It is established on the piety of God,
With might, taxation, and conscription.

15. Protected by lionhearted generals,
Of every roaring lion, born in the king’s den.

16. None but large-hearted men persist
In command, their nights untroubled and labored.

17. Stalwarts whose competence for the nation
Has never lapsed in management and assistance.

18. No wonder you became a full moon among their flowers,
Achieving perfection through diligent efforts.

19. A distinction that did not change the demeanor of the rest,
As in solidarity, they are joined in union.

20. With your insightful opinions the protector of the faith,
Green Tunisia was shielded from the tyranny of Nimrod.

21. No rebel coveted it unless its Counselor
Pursued him with a flaming meteor of foresight.

22. In decisive speech, you offer the adversary
Nothing but the deafness of the rocks struck by David.

23. So may your glory flourish however much ranks
You deserved more than others without doubt.

24. The ministry was befittingly yours
That your efforts therein compose a necklace of pearls.

25. It confided in you the secret that none other
Has been entrusted with its keys.

26. And who but the elite’s most exalted could attain its height,
Rising to the heights without gradual ascent?

27. So delight in it, ensconce yourself in its intimacy,
As your fresh wellspring flows without renewal.

28. Delight in a basil plant whose breeze reached you
From the garden of the King, among the most fragrant buds.

29. Never did the spark of its heated passion
Breathe reverence, though all that is sought is found.

30. How near is the pole star to traits and most effective
In inspiring the youth to attain hoped-for fortunes.

31. So submit, and persist for renewed glories
From which you may pluck the chaste fruits of desire.

32. With steady aim, decisive determination, wearing
Resolute wisdom, and girt with might and munificence.

33. Conveying to the Prince of the Faithful
Bliss and perfection unlimited.
