1. With loose living people seek renown,
And from it redoubled woe comes down.

2. It crazes minds; no life survives
When moderation and modesty die.

3. Though peasant frames grow sleek thereby,
Recognition and discernment fail thereby.

4. If for the nomad it makes sound physique,
The townsman by it is made sick and weak.

5. From it every man of gentle strain
Abstains, but fools without brains are fain.

6. Leave it to those whose nature suits it;
From it thy stock nobler growth computes.

7. Thou shalt not see, please God, a Hashimite
Engage therein from morn to evening light.
