هذي المكارم والعلياء تفتخر

1. These noble traits and virtues take pride
In a day whose hours are gems

١. هذي المَكارِمُ وَالعلياءُ تَفتَخِرُ
بِيَومِ مأثرةٍ ساعاتُهُ غُرَرُ

2. A day the ages smiled upon and brought together
Good fortune, while others paled beside it

٢. يَومٌ تبسَّم عَنهُ الدَهرُ وَاِجتَمَع
لَهُ السُعود وَأَغضَت دونَهُ الغِيَرُ

3. It seems we see in every glance
A garden blossoming with flowers

٣. حَتّى كَأَنّا نَرى في كلِّ ملتفِتٍ
رَوضاً تَفَتَّح في أَثنائِهِ الزَهَرُ

4. When hopes were fulfilled with a radiant dawn
The Most High said: I ascend and I prevail

٤. لَمّا تَجَلى عَن الآمالِ مشرقةً
قالَ العلى بك أَستَعلي وَأَقتَدِرُ

5. He came to us out of turn with the good news
That the like of him will follow

٥. وافى عَلى غَيرِ ميعادٍ يبشرنا
بِأَن سَتَتبَعهُ أَمثالُهُ الأُخَرُ

6. Are not these joys that came suddenly
That words and thoughts whispered about

٦. أَهنا المَسَرّاتِ ما جاءَت مفاجأَةً
وَما تَناجَت بها الأَلفاظُ وَالفِكرُ

7. If glad tidings had come to meet their time
Souls would have rushed to obtain them

٧. لَو أَنَّ بُشرىً تَلَقَّتها بِموردها
لَأَقبَلَت نحوها الأَرواحُ تَبتدرُ

8. None rebukes one who is generous at his expense
For this day of yours alone is life

٨. وَما تعنَّف مَن يَسخو بِمُهجَتِهِ
فَاِنَّ يَومَكَ هذا وَحدَهُ عُمرُ

9. You did not rise nor did sight turn
Save to a splendid and dazzling view

٩. فَما غَدَوتَ وَما لِلعَينِ منقلب
إِلّا إِلى مَنظرٍ يَبهي وَيحتبرُ

10. Your awe-inspiring manner bowed down eyes
Until only green could be seen in their glances

١٠. ثَنَت مهابَتُكَ الأَبصارَ حاسِرَةً
حَتّى تَبَيَّنَ في أَلحاظِها خَزَرُ

11. When you looked at them, they cast theirs down, and if they glanced
Through that, the slightest glance they glanced

١١. إِذا تَأَمَّلتَهُم غَضّوا وَاِن نَظَروا
خِلالَ ذاكَ فَأَدنى لفتةٍ نَظَروا

12. In clothes no prying eye had seen
Casting doubt that these were your blossoming traits

١٢. في مَلبَسٍ ما رَأَتهُ عَينُ مُعتَرِضٍ
فَشكَّ في أَنَّهُ أَخلاقُك الزُهُر

13. He clothed you with a light to illuminate by
As the moon illuminates the fringes of Muznah

١٣. أَلبَسَتهُ مِنكَ نوراً يُستَضاءُ بِهِ
كَما أَضاءَ ضَواحي مزنه القَمَر

14. You have taken to the riding crop, it is you who wield it
And from you comes what comes and goes

١٤. وَقَد تَقَلَّدتَ عَضَباً أَنتَ مضربُهُ
وَعنكَ يَأخذ ما يَأتي وَما يَذَرُ

15. It continues to increase in the radiance of its petals
Dawn shining in it and glowing pleasantly

١٥. ما زالَ يَزدادُ من اِشراق غرَّتِهِ
زهراً وَيشرق فيه التيهُ وَالأَشرُ

16. The sun envies an eye of which you are rider
Almost descending from the celestial spheres

١٦. وَالشَمسُ تحسدُ طرفاً أَنتَ راكِبُهُ
حَتّى تكادُ مِنَ الأَفلاكِ تنحَدِرُ

17. Until I feared the sun annoyed it
Spilling over its ridges in yearning

١٧. حَتّى لَقَد خلتُ ان الشَمسَ أَزعَجَها
شَوقٌ فَظَلَت عَلى عَطفَيهِ تنتثُرُ
