١. حَذَّاءُ مُدْبِرةً سَكَّاءُ مقبلةً
للماء في النحر منها نَوْطةٌ عَجَبُ
2. She waters the meadow and saturates its soil
As that one drinks to quench a burning thirst.
٢. تسقي أُزَيْغِبَ تُرويه مُجاجتها
وذاك من ظَمْأةٍ من ظِمْئها شَرَبُ
3. Her cheeks are furrowed but smooth, no stubble grows
In her delicate eyebrows, from kohl blackened.
٣. مُنْهَرِت الشِّدقِ لَمْ تَنْبُتْ قَوادِمُه
في حاجب العين من تسبيده زَبَبُ
4. She calls the tomcat of short steps, he has not
Before his throat feathers nor fluff.
٤. تدعو القَطا بقصير الخطو ليس له
قُدَّام مَنْحَرِها ريشٌ ولا زَغَبُ
5. She calls the tomcat, by him she's called, as she claims descent -
Oh, her sincerity when calling him, as kin she claims!
٥. تدعو القَطا وبه تُدْعى إذا انتسبتْ
يا صِدْقَها حين تدعوه وتنتسبُ
