If I complain of shortcomings in praising you

7. No, I am not blamed if I fall short, but
If I stay silent, I would not be excused

8. How can one who is drowned in passion not
Complain of disability when seeking an ocean

9. And I am a lad gifted in poetry
Differing in it from al-Buhturi and Jarir

10. I do not praise a generous man for greed
May the tongue be cut off if it utters lies

11. My Master, some people only praise
To build facades in praise and palaces

12. Until it is said so-and-so, may God make him eloquent
And the inclination is a set course for the noble

13. And every soul has its purpose with its leader
Flying and folding matters into matters

14. The nature of people is inclination to passion so observe
The goals of those who have done excellent expression

15. And perhaps the young man spreads other than what
He folds and says much of speech

16. As for me, truth is the adornment of my poems
I have not said anything that was not famous

17. I praise you though there is no kinship between us
No, and you are not over me a prince

18. I do not seek reward or help from you
Or to see you as the supporter of my life

19. But I speak the truth, and that which
I praise you with will spread tomorrow

20. The lands of the East have known you since
They nurtured you as a child in the cradle of glory

21. The lands of the West, your superiority is voiced
In their praise of you, both homes and abodes

22. The people of politics praise you in the world
As you were insightful in the secret of affairs

23. The people of knowledge and wisdom praise you
As you were an expert in every science

24. The destitute praise you because they
Knew you as a rain of abundant generosity

25. Those who suffered adversity praise you
As you were patient in the time of affliction

26. The people of chivalry and loyalty praise you
As you were jealous for the success of the country

27. The people of purity and piety praise you
As you have always been virtuous and pure

28. Those gone astray in the world praise you
As you were an enlightening moon for sinners

29. All who knew you praise you
As you have been a protector for those seeking refuge

30. If they praise you, your superiority has always
Made tongues and rocks speak in people

31. I fear for myself, if I praise, that
Your qualities will fatigue a renowned poet

32. If attaining much is difficult
At least I take from it a little

33. So to you this poem, scented with praise
Has become prouder than musk and camphor

34. It came to you, and it is the habit of its people
To not unveil faces from covers

35. It lacked a peer in beauty, and it
Resembled you, so it lacked a peer

36. And that is why it shyly approached you when it saw
Bearing a peer upon a peer is much

37. It reached you spreading my affection
For I am a lad in whose heart your love blazed

38. I love you O man of humility, I do not see
My heart enamored with other than you

39. In every part that loves you bliss has dwelled
So I tremble when they mention you, delighted

40. I talked to my heart privately for a while
It said: the private conversation has become forbidden

41. If you glanced in the eyes of my beloved for a moment
Your appearance made the gazelles ashamed
