1. I conceal what is within me were concealment to last
Yet my heart is obsessed with an overwhelming anxiety

2. My homeland, the nations and their people are awake
While you slumber unaware

3. It is the beloved homeland that hopes for its people
To hear its complaints - and you are its people

4. The time of blameworthy ignorance has passed
This is the time for learning to dawn

5. With knowledge they built dwellings amidst the seas
Living there with whales, floating and swimming

6. With knowledge they rode the winds across the skies
Saddling the breezes and taming them

7. With knowledge if they gather in the east
They can speak to those seeking speech in the west

8. With knowledge both camps destroyed one another
No arrows could distinguish the two camps

9. An era has come demanding knowledge from you
Seek it earnestly or you will regret

10. Why do I see our morals have become
Corrupted, increasing harm among us

11. Is there a cure for morals? Leave them
In the body and they will surely destroy

12. I worry when the seasons come around
And the vipers bite with unlawful venom

13. Is it honorable for a man to allow
Prostitutes to enter his home singing?

14. Sharing intimacy with his wife and family
That is truly disgraceful and condemnable

15. Tell me, by your Lord, how can a woman wake up
When just yesterday, she saw her husband happy

16. Wearing crowns and necklaces around his neck
Now suddenly morose and sullen

17. She turns despondent because of her husband’s deeds
Even if she were the devoutest Mary

18. Say: By my Lord this is the truth, acknowledge it
Do not fool yourself for you are Muslim

19. You foolish man, you delighted in her joy
As she smiled to conceal her sorrows

20. She showed you joyous smiles while hiding
That which she hid, the least of it—had you not been tricked—

21. You would have known. But the veiled woman is blameless
When she comes to do horrid acts she learned from her husband

22. The burden of worry I bear grows heavier
A worry that touches one’s honor is greatest of all

23. My children, to you I complain of this treatment
I have no grievance but you, and none to seek redress from other than you

24. For the sake of Allah, do not downplay your rights
Rise to combat the proponents of corruption

25. And heed my advice—though it cuts deep—
My maxim has reached you, and God knows best

26. He knows what lines I sketch and trace
Leave me be, my heart cannot bear

27. The moment has come for blood to pour from my tears
Leave me be with my advice, though it bites

28. My statement has reached its target, God is highest!
