1. In the care of the Most High Lord
Sleep, o gem of knowledge and gnosis

2. You spent your whole life in devotions
No devotion like knowledge and Qur'an

3. We stand humbly around your grave
Crying over you with flowing tears

4. We cry over you, but cry over all virtue
All in devotion to the Merciful

5. After As-Sabâ`i, Murrakush brought forth
Her Arab, the erudite Merciful

6. So he added to piety and jurisprudence
The splendor of Islam and faith

7. And you remained secluded in studying sciences
In old age and youth alike

8. Then you held firmly to your Lord’s rope, certain
That the reward will be contentment

9. Death did not take long to claim you
Except to free your pure body

10. So if you are absent from some eyes and sights
You are mentioned everywhere

11. And you are immortalized in every heart
And you are praised everywhere

12. They carried you over their heads and cried over you
That is the effort of sincere beloved ones

13. Alas for the Shaykh of the group, leaving
The soul leaving our bodies

14. So our hearts are filled with gloom over him
And our eyes are welling tears

15. Reveal his face to me once
So I can see him again and he can see me

16. Why did you not wash his body with tears
For tears for sincerity are like a sign

17. Yesterday we had a shining lamp
And today the light hides in shrouds

18. Such is this life and so is its state
Death is the end of every living being

19. My Lord, O You whose grace encompasses all people
Pour over him clouds of forgiveness

20. And allow us, O You whose pardon we hope for
By his side in the Abode of Contentment
