I unveiled my face to my readers

2. I called and you came after my call
Yet I walk shyly

3. I am a companion to those who enjoy
The wisdom of the wise and the etiquette of the refined

4. I am a drinking partner to those spending nights
With wine whose vessels are the best

5. I am like a mirror to people's deeds
I show the good and the opposite to the viewer

6. So be keen to have your actions appear
Radiantly pure in my bright complexion

7. Eloquence is my speech but in estrangement
I was named the mute

8. I am the tongue of the Far Maghreb expressing
Its beauties to the horizons

9. And provide readers what I reaped
Of the most useful news

10. And show you the most splendid sights so you witness
The realities of things firsthand

11. I am a stage for poetry displaying its beauty
And poetry is the revelation of the poets' ingenuity

12. Neither is my prose lacking balance or trailing off
Its meaning is complete with recital

13. And I am rid of the agendas of the biased
Their enemy and they my foes

14. I did not see the light of existence in the gloom
Of those gloomy eras

15. Until the dawn of Muhammad's time arose
The jewel of rulers, elite of princes

16. His merits were perfected, shone and ascended
As if telling the stars of the sky

17. And director of opinions, after that, who but

18. The genius whose ideas are meteors
Nearly illuminating the dark

19. I composed this poem in greeting to them both
Composing a poem is greeting the eminent
