1. Both barley bread and rice
And wheat bread made lawful

2. Save yourself from hellfire
And seek your provision from the Lord of Majesty

3. Though worldly luxury did not guide you
Away from the prince’s abode

4. Do not visit it, shun it
It is surely the worst of frauds

5. It weakens faith and demeans you
From the greatest of hopes

6. Before you fall, o transient one
Into a deep well

7. And be content, o woe to you, with this lowly world
It is an abode of trials

8. And decline and deception
How many like you it laid low

9. Owners of palaces
And nobles in gatherings and crowds

10. They left it with no way to protest
How many chiefs and ministers

11. Lie dead inside the earth
And lowly forgotten slaves

12. Whom I saw on the day they were uncovered
We could not tell rich from poor

13. They are silenced, equal in death
Under stone vaults

14. Leveled by a Just King
Who wrongs no one

15. Beware being laid low, o destitute
By a tumultuous fate

16. Where are Pharaoh and Haman?
And Nebuchadnezzar, lord of eagles?

17. Do you not fear a frowning Day
That pours misery?

18. Let evil pour upon it
With the torment of sizzling
