1. Be self-sufficient or die, and let not one with malice deceive you,
Not a cousin nor uncle nor maternal uncle.

2. They twist away from the rights of their nearest kin
And their tribe, though right belongs to the guardian.

3. So gather and despise not the smallest thing you gather,
And lose it not any day, whatever your state.

4. I dwell in Dhu Zawra to make it prosper,
For the generous man enriches his brethren.

5. It has three wells at its extremities,
And at each a fill is watered from the buckets.

6. When I call, all calling fails me
Save my calling, "O my money," when I call it.

7. When I say of a thing, upon doing it,
"I cannot," it stirs not, whatever my state.
