1. Lend me your eyes, my censor
Perhaps I'll see right as wrong

2. For my eyes are dyed with passion
Like a flask and its contents

3. We both see it, yet never
Will it grieve like a bereft parent

4. If the hunter had the eyes
Of the hunted, he wouldn't be fooled by the snare

5. You tempted me and fed my famished body
Woe to him, from the greed of the glutton

6. As if my clothes were dressed on me in spring
Covering my sides in an unattired land

7. As if my eyes in the surge of tears
Are turmoil, the eyelids like the coast

8. As if I and my tears in my eyelashes
I see my shroud in the hands of the undertaker

By Allah, am I not but a lad

10. Who strives while fate jest with me
When ignorance prevailed among his people

11. The virtues of the wise harmed him
As if time were remnants of darkness

12. While I in it like the setting moon
I complied with its rule obediently

13. To revelation descending on my mind
And he who has as his judge one he loves

14. Sees the unjust decree as just
They disparage my thinness, but never

15. Did a star on the horizon look like a bee
How can the polished sword be blamed

16. If the youths hands did the polishing
Confused, so love fought us

17. With a flexible spear made of dry palm leaves
And I'm amazed by my hope of union with her

18. While some of the wishes kill hope
She has two minds that love and entertain
