1. Have you truly seen death with bloody claws?

How many nights spent by one not leaping?

5. No sooner did dawn split than I saw it
Its claws embedded in the stars.

6. In the wilderness of days, how many violently killed
Crammed in, for whom disasters' daughters crowd.

7. The blazing crescent fell. With me, beat the path
When sunlight gleamed between the shadows.

8. It lodged in the wallowing of sorrows souls
Whose lifespans drag them like captive girls.

9. So it reclaimed some bare ruined creatures,
And the lifespans of others are what befell the lost.

10. It took the East's wise man. Do you hoard sorrow?
What's left after the departure of the brilliant ones?

11. Heap dust upon his cheeks and unleash
Upon him clouds of pouring tears.

12. May papers lament you in every battle
When his pens are unsheathed, every writer.

13. For he shook the banner if he roused for war;
I saw him charge more fiercely than a rending spearhead.

14. He had no fear when battle grew hot
And standards fluttered over the troops.

15. His nature was as guidance desired,
And his people desired all glorious traits.

16. No wonder the stars are mourning the Sublime
When his soul linked him to the stars.

17. Ask his bearers, did they see around his bier
Angels who fought behind every warrior?

18. Did they carry piety to the hole in the earth
And walk with that column over the paths?

19. Did they sheathe in his grave a sword, when
The East’s banner is unfurled by Westerners?

20. How often Islam shook, facing an event,
So he shook the polished blade and the blade that strikes!

21. I see sorrows in souls that collapsed,
Their entrails cut from every side.

22. No wonder if time is fickle
When all strangenesses are among its people.
