Affection and brotherhood did not remain modest

Despair roared for it but hope replied

19. It was as if among the stars was a river
With thirsty hearts hovering over its turmoil

20. And the beloved forgot and passed by frolicking
As gazelles frolic in their meadows

21. The wine sparkled and its cups
Until the roses nearly exposed it in shyness

22. Every branch swayed and began to dance
The branches imitated its swaying posture

23. An era that was like the dawn has passed
In it the world lived, followed by the evening

24. Such is fate, one state after another
For its people luxury and misery

25. If days gladdened you, they harmed you
Would that you were neither gladdened nor harmed

26. If no loved one remains in the world
Its beginning and end are equal
