1. The heavens are not domes of musk,
Nor do they move like the revolving sphere in the haze.

2. They revolve with what they revolve, while we
Are like shadows on the dust from above the soil.

3. Had people been upon the heavens,
They would have stayed like a ship in the fog.

4. Had the angels socialized with it,
You would see the dove like the crow.

5. The weak one is mightier than those upon it,
The strong one is weaker than a gnat.

6. People are not visible bodies.
Rather each soul is like a spear in a sheathe.

7. Souls have differed, so one soul
Is in an orbit, while another is in clothes.

8. No wonder when a person becomes
To a person like an amazing thing!

9. The wealthy monopolized every soul,
And the desperate belittled, and the well-read.

10. Since they rode the ship of fate, thinking
The goods of the world are for passengers.

11. But money is nothing but the eye.
Has it not become like a veil for misfortunes?

12. So let not the sighted boast over the blind.
For what saves one perishing except another perishing?

13. Ask those who thought getting money was easy,
Was ease ever achieved except through hardship?

14. By your life, gold is only redeemed souls.
They gained for others, so the gainer became depressed.

15. The form of their youth was made into gold. Are not
The decorations of youth upon the dinar?

16. They wish for happiness, yet it is to them
Like getting water in a sea of mirage.

17. The treasury of hopes is filled
For those who meet it with a collapsed saddlebag.

18. Whoever is fooled by the strong will find him
Like the blade of a sword sheathed in necks.

19. When the rooster cries for foxes,
Then none but the responder has an answer.

20. The wealthy see poverty as weakness,
Yet how many snakes are under ruins!

21. They do not fear the power of the starving,
Yet nothing is more harmful than the hunger of wolves.

22. Was not the ship made of iron?
So why does the water penetrate it with its fang?

23. When it is miserly to the waves, they rise high.
After rising high, nothing remains but capsizing!

24. Does not knowledge have authority over those
Who see merits are only in luxury?

25. The knowledgeable among people are only
Like those who restrain beasts from fodder.

26. He stays with it, trains it miserably,
While the milker enjoys the butter.

27. How much difference between euphoria and sorrow
When I see both in distress!

28. I see scholars moving laboriously among us
To a hidden bliss beneath torment.

29. Like a piece of sugar in a cup of coffee
Melting to sweeten the drink.

30. Whoever takes knowledge without morals
Has found beauty without a well-shaped body.

31. What is the point of makeup when you know
The flaws are underneath the makeup?

32. If manners decline after knowledge,
Then all ignorance is in one chapter.

33. Were it not for knowledge, souls would not
Settle down to truth in the unknown of life.

34. And were it not for religion, every soul
Would be like a beast settling for mere prey.

35. I saw religion and souls in us
As a stranger accompanies a stranger in alienation.

36. No soul without religion. And who
Has seen winds blow without clouds?

37. Let those who wish deny, for beneath many a husk
Is the marvel of insights.

38. To Allah is the recourse. So how can
The companion of journeys be blind to the path of return?

39. I am not thirsty when next to me is a river
Flowing between my heart and the veil.
