1. Yes, worry has clouded my heart, so it became blind,
And separation has settled upon it, so it became sleepless.

2. And the one whose love has twisted your heart,
Can you have patience or have you not prepared to show resilience?

3. I fell for a girl like a fawn, playing,
A pure white doe, with a musky fragrance.

4. She is a singing gazelle among the short-glanced beauties,
Her meadow is scented by the soft summer breeze.

5. If you look, you see her resting on the sands,
Or if you turn, you find a frightened deer.

6. She has a face, if roses competed with some of it
With tenderness, it would scent the gardens thoroughly.

7. And her face when she unveils meeting the sun
Makes us think it outshines the sun in brightness.

8. She has a neck like the bending stem of a lotus,
Shepherding the mountains of coyness, strolling and roaming.

9. And a breast like solid ivory, smooth and delicate,
A studded casket which musk has scented.

10. And a shining chest like carnelian, gleaming,
Its hue turned yellow by the dripping dew.

11. She struts on her two mounts, swaying proudly,
Her tresses carry musk and ambergris.

12. And she smiles from the wine of virginity intoxicated,
Tormenting like the shining stars.

13. Her coffee brown is pure, its flavor
A spring, blue in color, not turbid.

14. The scattering of her musky hair, scented with amber,
Mixed with musk in the vial, most fragrant,

15. Is sweeter than the twilight stars when they set in the west,
And the night turns away.

16. I sported with her in lowly life and pleasure,
And that time never ceased to change.

17. When they called for departure and prepared
The sedans adorned with curtains.

18. Yesterday, her swaying camel made me anxious,
Today, neighing, so I am filled with more worry,

19. And when I saw the separation had become serious,
While I remain encamped with those left behind.

20. I cried such tears, if Tadmor's rock cried like them,
Like its chisels I wished it would crumble.

21. So leave this, and wash away the worry with a cup
Of wine when the flaming day departs.

22. Of the gleaming goblets of Tameeq and Qimtar
When offered, ring with a tinkle.

23. On it is a noble youth from the tribe of Kahlans, glorious,
Who has upheld might and honor and pride.

24. A descendant of kings from the Arabs of Ya'rab,
By them Khusrow's throne was abased and Caesar's.

25. He who humbles enemies after their glory,
To positions which even hyenas spurn.

26. Who clothes the formidable lion in two garments -
A coat of mail and a waist wrapper.

27. The leader who charges the enemy with brave horsemen,
Disheveled like the image of lions gaunt.

28. With resolute purpose, penetrating wisdom
And insight that shows him the unseen folds.

29. Do you not see that God granted him a chapter
And glory over all honored kings?

30. Umar and Uthman raised him to nobility,
So blessed be a lineage pure and proud!

31. They are the lords of the caliphate and the eminent,
And the noblest of those who gained authority and ruled.

32. So who, O people, shall ask us,
For we are the kings of men from the tribe of donkeys!

33. We have attained a status beyond which meteors fall short,
And we hope for what is beyond it meteors will shine.
