The strokes of fate have wearied you

1. The strokes of fate have wearied you,
Do not despair, for their stay will not be long.

2. It does not dishonor you, rather it adorns you, their assault,
For lightning adorns the heavy rain clouds.

3. Bear lightly that you have been detained out of no suspicion,
For the resting places of lions are their dens.

4. They have veiled your bright face from the gaze of creation,
Lest its splendor and arrows should hurt you.

5. Do you not see how birds are left neglected in the wild,
Deserted, their feathers plucked, their tufts ruffled?

6. In Joseph's prison is a model for the innocent,
So humiliations will gentle descend upon you.

7. Are you anything but a blossom or a light,
That gave off fragrance, so they sheathed you with that veil?
