1. The rope of worldly life, O seeker of it, is rotten
And humiliation in seeking it dispersed
2. Say to one whom desire for it deceived
And gained from it his ruin and defeat
3. Since his profit from it and his drive dispersed
While it would suffice him in it to drive on
4. Its sleekness with God is rubbish
And its honey contains naught but carrion
5. Its parents are disgrace and wickedness
And its brothers toil and evil
6. How many a seeker it made stray to seek it
And refugees, loss befell them as they sought refuge
7. And virtuous men, loss ruined their finery
For their finery with dust is rubbish
8. It and dust are equal in the earth as rubbish
He who did not obtain it when desire for it overwhelmed him
9. Death may befall him
And regret afterward will not avail
10. Although there is in it nothing but emptiness and ruin
If some breath is attained after much toil
11. Cares hastened upon him
Both in it are equally evil and the outcome corruption
12. Whether his livelihood in it is favor or crumbs
And whether he has bounty and cultivation
13. Or whether his earning and cultivation made him prosperous
Or whether the attainment passed through his hands
14. Because it has with it no permanence
And one's stay in its quarters is not prolonged
15. So its lips will wither and its cavities crack
Its afflictions will change and its inheritance disperse
16. The appointed time will reclaim what befell it
Falsehood will make public its nakedness
17. And its memory and traces will disappear
And death comes to all who by it kneel
18. While the choice of their garbage inherits it
Then around his rot carrion-eating insects will gather
19. Where is our father Adam and his cohorts?
And all who came after divine inspiration?
20. Where are those who firmly guided, broke open its mysteries and scattered them
And explained its difficulties and called for help?
21. They made excuses to the firmly guided and cried out for help
And combined their hostility and cut it off
22. Where are those who clung to the world and became stained by it?
Rather, they carried them to the place of worms
23. Then the dust reclaimed them
It is the soil as if they became carrion
24. So with their rot is their rubbish
And with their pulp their stench
25. And the resurrection will gather all together
While influence will not avail there
26. Nor will plunder be gathered there
And there will be hardship there and flowing pus
27. There yearning and regret will gush forth
Oh would that I knew of my disheveled sins
28. And the disgraceful acts I committed
While my deeds and words are despicable rubbish
29. Is there any escape for me from the heat of hell
And from the momentousness of what my skin will bear
30. And from the sources of salvation I am cut off
By the acts of those destined for ruin I am smeared
31. Or am I pleased and pardoned thereby?
I will then have a portion in the Gardens
32. And in the meadows of those made joyful a place to alight
And of the fruits of the immortals a cluster
33. And with kerchiefs of bliss I will be adorned
Your mercy has delivered me from confusion
34. While I was wandering in the wastes of error
And the correcting measure of my guidance is not what dryness corrupted
35. So to integrity I cling though corrupted
If You take me to account then my work is plenty
36. And if in Your pleasure there is escape for me
Then pardon, O Lord, with You is the most bountiful honor
37. Far be it from You to deny bounty to any
