1. Justify me with connection before death,
And with the remembrance of our past days,

2. When we spent leisurely days of intimacy,
Between those gardens and orchards.

3. Remembering them is pleasurable for one who forgot,
The intimate of yearnings and sighs.

4. O God protect the night of our union,
When we drew out the tail of bliss and pleasures,

5. With a maiden as beautiful as the sun,
With a languishing glance - what a maiden!

6. Between the shelters of a garden its Lord watered,
With pouring rainclouds.

7. The jasmine diffused its light so the breeze brought us,
The most fragrant scent from it.

8. Its leaves called out with their bending branches,
Resembling singing slave-girls.

9. The turtle-doves cooed, warbled over it and fluttered,
Trying to captivate hearts with melodies.

10. The singers entertained us all night, and we stayed awake,
Savoring the most delightful drinks.

11. We passed around cups of wine,
How wonderful wine is for night gatherings!

12. A wine that quenched the flame in my heart,
Transferred from the meadow of gardens.

13. In its drinking is a cure, for whoever
Has been pierced by glances.

14. We did not stop plucking flowers, until
Dawn raised its banners in the darkness.

15. And the bird of morning trilled, so we got up
While my heart melted from my sighs.

16. She gave me an embrace at the farewell,
And we complained of the discordance of parting.

17. She left while separation carves up my heart,
And my sobbing flows out in my tears.

18. My night of intimacy with you was too short - if only
It continued as it was before, in the chambers.

19. The hands of bliss folded you, but then
Adversity unveiled you from my abundance.

20. You changed in the darkness to an ephemeral state,
From the bond of a palace's shelter.

21. There was just a day between this and that -
Where are you now, from those bygone days?

22. Refrain from this passion and spur on the steeds of poetry,
Towards the hopes of the trusty horsemen.

23. For how long will you be slaying gazelles,
And crazed with chasing girls?

24. Indulge the soul in its passions - how many
Pitfalls there are in pursuing passions!

25. Make use of the prime of youth while it shines, and know
That the life of a youth is like fresh herbage,

26. While it is thriving and verdant,
Suddenly it withers at the hands of oppressors.

27. Or the breeze strips it away little by little,
Until it becomes like crushed straw.

28. And remember the Day of Resurrection when
Your misdeeds will be recited back to you.

29. The day when every nursing mother will forsake
Her nursling in overwhelming sorrow.

30. The day when no father will avail his son,
Nor he avail him, even a little.

31. The day when no friend will benefit a friend,
However righteous he was in life.

32. The day when souls will be recompensed either with
The cushions of high stations, or the heat of hellfire.

33. Therein people will enter hellfire
While others will look upon the Most Generous.

34. My God, I did not ask stingily -
Enfold me, my Master, in the sea of salvation!

35. The day when there is no shade but Yours, my Lord,
You Who have no need for me or my good deeds.

36. And allow Your sinful servant Ibn Zakour, my God,
The lofty ranks.

37. Overlook my sins, for I am full of sins
That barred me from the pavilions of heaven.

38. And excuse my parents and family
For their major misdeeds.

39. And forgive the Muslim men and women,
The faithful men and women,

40. For the sake of Your most noble of creations,
And Your Messenger, the Bringer of signs.

41. The Prophet of the Pond and Intercession on the day of
Great turmoil, the shelter for people in afflictions.

42. Bless him, O Lord, and bestow upon him
The most perfect greetings and prayers.

43. And upon his family and companions, the caves
Of generosity, the dawns of guidance.

44. No gleaming sword has been drawn from its sheath,
And no doves have cooed in the wilderness.
