1. We weep for your absence, O Ramadan
As your separation overwhelms us with sorrows

2. We cry for your beautiful appearance, O epitome of beauty
Indeed, crying for it is a sign of faith

3. We weep, and rightly so, while few tears have been shed for it
If only tears could bring it back in earnest

4. We mourn the fasting and its virtues and rewards
As glorifying God and the Quran give us strength

5. We weep to emulate the angels through you, O the most virtuous
As children wept for your times

6. We mourn the spiritual and physical vigor and the joy of
Breaking fast, if the heart still pulses for it

7. We weep and mourn for the Tarawih prayer
Which purifies hearts like sweet basil

8. And our pre-dawn prayer when the dew has diffused
Its secrets through the breeze

9. The meteors are like seashells in the sea of night’s gloom
Which the human diver rises to collect

10. Or like pearls which the worshipers covet
Illuminating the darkness with their shine

11. Or like cups passed around by brothers
Or like flowers when the garden is in full bloom

12. Or like embers surrounded by smoke
Or like desires confined by deprivation

13. We will weep for you until our eyelids wither
O jewel of eras, O Ramadan

14. Why not, when the Quran was revealed in you?
Why not, when generosity proliferated in you?

15. Why not, when Satan was shackled in you?
Why not, when aggression was subdued in you?

16. Why not, when the Most Merciful forgave in you?
Whom He has blessed and multiplied forgiveness for

17. Indeed, faith has rightly wept for you
Why not, when you are its human eye?
