1. I thank the best of virtuous brothers
Of every eloquent poet in verse or prose

2. And the elite of the hunt from the nobles of Andalusia
And their eloquent tongues of great renown

3. She has snatched away the customs of night wanderers
Over the course of time and the renewal of storms

4. And his being in the offspring of Tetouan his emergence
A full moon of loftiness endowed with the best illumination

5. So he came more eloquent than those who follow
A course of coherent, robust verse not forsaken

6. His neighbor in the path of words hosted
Poetry with poetry and composition with composition

7. And surpassed the verse which had been a tradition
For a night visitor on the wing of starlings

8. And the connection from a beloved who is not awaited
By his ardent lover, fires long extinguished

9. Is that the finest example for praising me
Or the coldest fresh water soothing an anguished heart

10. And the one who expects ease after hardship reaches him
The father of weak, little girls

11. So may God reward you, not my poetry and rhyming
For the kindness of praise not recompensed

12. For you have gifted the man scattering pearls
In a consistent string to the son of Zakour

13. Remember the ugly deeds which disgraced him
In private, in absentia, serious and determined

14. And he may brazenly indulge in vulgarity
Taking the path of the Emigrant, the house of God and the maidens

15. Knowledge did not find him when he sought it
For the education of the self, not for God with light

16. So what is the vitality of embellished words
With a creative mind for everything forbidden

17. Except like the verdure of a body without life
Amongst the bodies behind walls beyond what is encircled

18. Alas! The pearls of poetry are the most precious
Gifted to a learned man of poetry, prolific

19. You have gained through that the bow, its strings
And the gaze flowing between the throngs

20. And the arrow that ascends the zeal of archers
And the blade that executes the critics of dinars

21. And the musk whose scent has shone
Healing every breast in pain

22. No wonder that we, when you have bestowed gifts upon us
Reluctantly lower to thank for the inadequacy

23. For you are the file that destroys all contemporaries
Elevating and debasing them in order

24. Thus they are to you whilst you are the lion, roaring at them
The roar of your poetry like hissing snakes

25. They throng seeking a portion of your dust
In the plight of ascension, what bellowing of the donkey against braying

26. May God protect you from the evil eye
And nail the eye of the envious with nail-like objects

27. From the actions of the scoundrel wearing each righteousness
To deceive the eminent with honor and esteem

28. For you are a Lord of beauty not recompensed
And you are an oath of sincere work, serious and appreciated

29. So may God protect you from the injustice of a brute
Who did not anticipate a watcher over destinies

30. And may God elevate or maintain you anticipating
The transgression for they are the worst of villains

31. And may God protect you in your hearing, wearing
The protection from all prohibitions and hazards

32. And may God accompany you with support, adhering
To the might of God in the time of turmoil
