1. My ailment disabled me, so I became a chief,
Surpassing Hippocrates and Thales in medicine.
١. أَعْضَلَتْ عِلَّتِي فَجِئْتُ رَئِيسَا
فَاقَ فِي الطِّبِّ أَرِسْطَا طَالِيسَا
2. I sought the cornerstone of rule, my master,
I, son of those who founded guidance on establishment.
٢. وَقَصَدْتُ رُكْنَ السِّيَادَةِ مَوْلاَ
نَا ابْنَ مَنْ أَسَّسُوا الْهُدَى تَأْسِيسَا
3. And I regained the glory of the absent one who revived
The West with a quarter of right guidance and wisdom.
٣. وَانْتَجَعْتُ مُزْنَ الْغَائِبِ مَنْ أَحْ
يَى بِغَرْبٍ رَبْعَ الرَّشَادِ الدَّرِيسَا
4. And I treasured the hoard of wealth, the spring of the bleary-eyed,
The sea of dew, Idris.
٤. وَأَمَّمْتُ كَنْزَ الْغِنَى عَيْنَ أَعْيَا
نِ السُّرَاةِ بَحْرَ النَّدَى إِدْرِيسَا
5. The sun of our salvation - thus some of his years
Obliterated all that required abasement.
٥. شَمْسَ مَنْجَاتِنَا فَبَعْضُ سَنَاهُ
مَاحِقٌ كُلَّّ مَا اقْتَضَى تَنْكِيسَا
6. The branch of God's servant and the two grandsons,
And the successor shone their years like suns.
٦. فَرْعَ عَبْدِ الإِلَهِ وَالْحَسَنَيْنِ
وَالْوَصِيِّ أَبْدَوْا سَنَاهُ شُمُوسَا
7. And the virgin daughter of the Messenger of God,
Allah's prayers be upon him, watered its summit with cups.
٧. وَالْبَتُولِابْنَةِ الرَّسُولِ عَلَيْهِ ال
لَّهُ صَلَّى سَقَتْ عُلاَهُ كُؤُوسَا
8. Do not blame us for seeking it, we
Only sought through it the caliph of Jesus.
٨. لاَ تَلُمْنَا لِأَنْ قَصَدْنَاهُ إِنَّا
قَدْ قَصَدْنَا بِهِ خَلِيفَةَ عِيسَى
9. He before whom hands and heads bow down
When they walk on his land covered with skulls and heads.
٩. وَالذِي تَفْضُلُ الأَكَارِعُ إِذْ تَخْ
طُو عَلَى أَرْضِهِ الطُّلَى وَالرُّؤُوسَا
10. Our delegation hastened to you, my master,
My master of generosity, kissing hands.
١٠. قَدْ سَعَى وَفْدُنَا إِلَيْكَ أَمَوْلاَ
يَ أَمَوْلَى الْكِرَامِ مُجْلِي الْبُوسَا
11. Through your son, our neighbor, the content Idris,
Help us perform good and bad deeds.
١١. بِابْنِكُمْ جَارِنَا الرِّضَى إِدْرِيسَا
إِعْنِنَا عَنْ أَعْمَالِ نِعْمَ وَبِيسَا
12. And turn from us fraud and deception,
That we may not see terrible torment.
١٢. وَانْفِ عَنَّا التَّلْبِيسَ وَالتَّدْلِيسَا
فَعَسَى لاَ نَرَى عَذَاباً بِيسَا
13. And let us benefit from gifts abundantly
So we overflow with the outpouring of his dictionary.
١٣. وَلْتُفِدْنَا مِنَ الْمَوَاهِبِ مَا بَغْ
لِبُ فَيْضُ زُلاَلِهِ الْقَامُوسَا
14. Give us the wine of wealth so that
We do not fear poverty and bankruptcy.
١٤. عَاطِنَا خَمْرَةَ الْغِنَى مِنْكَ حَتَّى
لاَ نَخَافَ الإِعْسَارَ وَالتَّفْلِيسَا
15. And feed us sweet, desired food
That excels both quantity and quality.
١٥. وَاغْذِنَا مِنْ غِذَاءٍ حُلْوِ الأَمَانِي
مَا يُجِيدُ الْكَيْلُوسَ وَالْكَيْمُوسَا
16. And quench us from cups of your righteousness, and dress
Us in the fabric of contentment.
١٦. وَاسْقِنَا مِنْ كُؤُوسِ بِرِّكَ وَاخْلَعْ
مِنْ نَسِيجِ الرِّضَى عَلَيْنَا لَبُوسَا
17. And water the heat of grief with your clouds, a watering
That left no burning in our hearts.
١٧. وَارْوِ حَرَّ الْحَشَا بِجَدْوَاكَ رَيّاً
لَمْ يَدَعْ فِي الْفُؤَادِ مِنَّا رَسِيسَا
18. Do not waste a step we took to your abode,
The clearing of sublime old age and misfortune.
١٨. لاَ تُضَيِّعْ خُطىً وَصَلْنَا بِهَا مَثْ
وَاكَ مَثْوَى السَّنَا الْمُزِيحِ النُّحُوسَا
19. We saw glory flourishing through it,
And we saw majesty dwelling in it.
١٩. فَرَأَيْنَا السَّنَا بِهِ مُسْتَطِيراً
وَرَأَيْنَا الْجَلاَلَ فِيهِ جَلِيسَا
20. And greetings from your servant, the son of Zakour,
Upon the tomb that remains inhabited.
٢٠. وَسَلاَمٌ مِنْ عَبْدِكُمْ نَجْلِ زَاكُو
رٍ عَلَى الْقَبِْر لاَ يَزَالُ حَبِيسَا
21. Its scent is perfumed, like the scent of your tomb,
However much glory the place of your rest contains, O groom.
٢١. عَاطِرٌ نَشْرُهُ كَنَشْرِ ثَرَاكُمْ
مَا حَوَى الْمَجْدُ قَبْرَكُمْ عِرِّيسَا
22. And prayers upon Abu Al-Qasim the Elect,
Whom you sanctified above all people.
٢٢. وَالصَّلاَةُ عَلَى أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ الْمُخْ
تَارِ مَنْ قَدْ حَبَاكُمُ التَّقْدِيسَا
23. The most precious of all creation, through whom,
O pearl of the pure, you were precious.
٢٣. أَنْفَسِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمْ مَنْ بِهِ يَا
دُرَّةَ الطَّاهِرِينَ كُنْتَ نَفِيسَا
