كم ذا تقرطسني بسمر نبالها

1. How often does she wound me with the arrows of her dark glances,
And transgress with her left hand!

١. كَمْ ذَا تُقَرْطِسُنِي بِسُمْرِ نِبَالِهَا
سُودُ الْخُطُوبِ وَتَعْتَدِي بِشِمَالِهَا

2. This, because I sought refuge in the protection
Of one who has protected the vulnerable from her deadly blades.

٢. هَذَا عَلَى أَنِّي لَجَأْتُ إِلَى حِمَى
مَنْ قَدْ حَمَى مَنْ كَانَ عُرْضَ نِصَالِهَا

3. My master Idris son of Idris son of he whose
Lions cowered before him in their dens.

٣. مَوْلاَيَ إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ بْنِ مَنْ
ذَلَّتْ لَهُ الآسَادُ فِي أَغْيَالِهَا

4. Servant of God the Perfect, son of the Chosen One,
Of excellent lineage, the shining light of valor.

٤. عَبْدِ الإِلَهِ الْكَامِلِ بْنِ الْمُرْتَضَى
حَسَنِ الْمُثَنَّى ذِي اللُّهَى بَذَّالِهَا

5. Scion of the one who attained all glory,
Brother of loftiness, the crescent moon.

٥. نَجْلِ الذِي حَازَ الْمَفَاخِرَ كُلَّهَا
حَسَنِ الْبَتُولِأَخِي الْعُلاَ وَهِلاَلِهَا

6. Grandson of the Messenger, the Hashimite
The best of creation, chosen from among mankind.

٦. سِبْطِ الرَّسُولِ الْهَاشِمِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ
خَيْرِ الْوَرَى الْمُخْتَارِ مِنْ أَقْيَالِهَا

7. May God shower blessings upon him as long as life continues
And spirits thrill in their vessels.

٧. صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ اللهُ مَا صَابَ الْحَيَا
وَاهْتَاجَتِ الأَرْوَاحُ فِي آصَالِهَا

8. And upon his family and companions who
Trod the path of guidance and traversed its mountains.

٨. وَعَلَى جَمِيعِ الآلِ وَالأَصْحَابِ مَنْ
سَلَكُوا الْهُدَى وَتَوَقَّلُوا بِجِبَالِهَا

9. My master! O scion of the exalted ones who attained lofty heights
And surpassed heroes on the day of battle!

٩. مَوْلاَيََ يَا نَجْلَ الأُلَى شَادُوا الْعُلاَ
وَعَدَوْا عَلَى الأَبْطَالِ يَوْمَ نِزَالِهَا

10. Save your slave from the fetters which
Have bound him - kinship to those who wield the sword.

١٠. خَلِّصْ جُوَيْرَكَ مِنْ حُبُولٍ أَوْلَغَتْ
فِيهِ الْمُدَى فَغَدا حَليفَ قِتالِهَا

11. Indeed it is certain, resolved without doubt my lord,
That you save the captive from his shackles.

١١. فَلَقَدْ تَأَكَّدَ بَلْ تَعَيَّنَ سَيِّدِي
أَنْ تُنْقِذَ الْمَأْسورَ مِنْ أَغْلالِهَا

12. I trust that you give refuge to those who seek
Your protection, from all that they dread and fear.

١٢. عَهْدِي بِمَنْ آوَى إِلَيْكَ تُجِيرُهُ
مِنْ كُلِّ مَا يَخْشَاهُ مِنْ أَهْوَالِهَا

13. Why is it that he who resides as your guest
Is threatened by terrors with their dark fetters?

١٣. مَا بَالُ مَنْ أَمْسَى نَزِيلَ مَقَامِكُمْ
مَدَّتْ لَهُ الأَهْوَالُ سُودَ حِبَالِهَا

14. If he has fallen short in action, the exalted ones
Still excel, excusing lapses with their noble traits.

١٤. إِنْ سَادَ مِنْهُ الْفِعْلُ قِدْماً فَالأُلَى
سَادُوا وَجادُوا الْعَفْوُ عِلْقُ خِصَالِهَا

15. Who in existence has not been harmed
Especially one such as I, bewildered?

١٥. مَنْ ذا الذِي مَا ساءَ قَطُّ مِنَ الْوَرَى
لاَ سِيَّمَا مَنْ كَانَ مِثْلِي وَالِهَا

16. O refuge of the anguished and distressed
Rescuer of the weak from tyranny and ordeals!

١٦. يَا مَلْجَأَ الْمَلْهُوفِ وَالْمَكْرُوبِيَا
غَوْثَ الضَّريكِ مِنَ الْعِدَى وَوَبَالِهَا

17. Hasten that which I hope for from your plenty,
O Kaaba of hopes, treasured wishes!

١٧. عَجِّلْ بِمَا أَمَّلْتُهُ مِنْ رِفْدِكُمْ
يَا كَعْبَةَ الأُمَّالِ فِي آمَالِهَا

18. My hopes will be realized through you - for the thirsty
You are a gushing river of attainment.

١٨. أَنَجِيدَ آمَالِي وَفِيكَ لِذِي الظَّمَا
نَهْرُ الْمُنَى قَدْ فَاضَ مِنْ سَلْسَالِهَا

19. What loss if you quenched the thirst of her soul
From your overflow, and relieved me of my state?

١٩. مَا ضَرَّ لَوْ رَوَّيْتَ غُلَّ جُؤَادِهَا
مِنْ فَيْضِهِ وَأَرَحْتَنِي مِنْ حَالِهَا

20. Others gain the pure wine of wishes from your plenty
While I am left thirsting in this condition.

٢٠. غَيْرِي يَعُبُّ بِصَفْوِ أَفْلاَجِ الْمُنَى
مِنْ رِفْدِكُمْ وَأَنَا أَغَصُّ بِحَالِهَا

21. You are above such bias, your majesty transcends
Depriving your slave in equal measure.

٢١. ذِي قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَى وَحَاشَ جَلاَلُكُمْ
أَنْ تَغْبَنُوا مَمْلُوكَكُمْ بِمِثَالِهَا

22. When hopes drew near, it was more fitting for me
Than those who lingered far from your spring.

٢٢. قَدْ كَانَ أَجْدَرَ بِالْمُنَى لَمَّا دَنَا
مِمَّنْ نَأَى وَبِرَشْفِ ثَغْرِ مَنَالِهَا

23. By your father - the greatest intercession, unquestioned
In its acceptance - fulfill my wish, O mighty one!

٢٣. بِأَبِيكَ وَهْيَ وَسِيلَةٌ لاَ يُمْتَرَى
بِقَبُولِهَا أَعْظِمْ بِعِزِّ رِجَالِهَا

24. By the noble deeds of the devout and ascetics gone before
Or stalwart slayers immersed in the fray.

٢٤. وَبِمَنْ مَضَى مِنْ مَاجِدٍ أَوْ زَاهِدٍ
أَوْ مُثْكِلِ الْهَيْجَاءِ فِي أَبْطَالِهَا

25. By every brilliant, accomplished one, immersed in bounty,
Star of guidance, poison of enemies, fruit of wishes.

٢٥. مِنْ كُلِّ أَبْلَجَ فَاضِلٍ غَمْرِ النَّدَى
نَجْمِ الْهُدَى سُمِّ الْعِدَى وَثُمَالِهَا

26. Lofty, enriching settlements, lion of foes, refuge
From ills of the times, and their accumulated sorrows.

٢٦. سَامِي الذُّرَى مُثْرِي الْقِرَى لَيْثِ الشَّرَى
كَهْفِ الْوَرَى مِمَّا عَرَى وَثِمَالِهَا

27. Reproach me not for the transgressions
Of my youth, its errors and misguidance!

٢٧. لاَ تَأْخُذَنِّي بِالذِي أَسْلَفْتُهُ
زَمَنَ الصِّبَا مِنْ غَيِّهَا وَضَلاَلِهَا

28. For I neglected the rights of your neighborhood
And strayed from the paths of piety and righteousness.

٢٨. فَلَقَدْ بَخَسْتُ بِهَا حُقُوقَ جُوَارِكُمْ
وَعَدَلْتُ عَنْ سُبْلِ التُّقَى وَظِلاَلِهَا

29. I raced the steeds of frivolity heedlessly
Amid the blossoms of passion and its diversions.

٢٩. وَرَكَضْتُ أَفْرَاسَ الْبِطَالَةِ لاَهِياً
مَا بَيْنَ أَزَاهِرِ الْهَوَى وَصِلاَلِهَا

30. But now, O pole of existence, I have saddled them
And made great effort to ignore such pursuits.

٣٠. وَالآنَ يَا قُطْبَ الْوَرَى أَعْرَيْتُهَا
وَبَذَلْتُ جُهْدَ الْجِدِّ فِي إِهْمَالِهَا

31. I have demolished what in the days of youth I built
In reckless hopes or empty ruins.

٣١. وَهَدَمْتُ مَا شَيَّدْتُ أَيَّامَ الصِّبَا
فِي مَطْمَحِ الآثَامِ أَوْ أَطْلاَلِهَا

32. I have abandoned music, song and bliss
And held myself back from shameful wrangling.

٣٢. وَهَجَرْتُ سُعْدَى وَالرَّبَابَ وَعَزَّةً
وَرَدَعْتُ نَفْسِي عَنْ قَبِيحِ جِدَالِهَا

33. My soul now yearns for the fruits of piety
And turns from the tax of passion and its wrangles.

٣٣. وَتَشَوَّقَتْ نَفْسِي إِلَى تَمْرِ التُّقَى
وَعَدَلْتُ عَنْ مُقْلِ الْهَوَى وَجَدَالِهِا

34. Realize my hopes then, and grant my need!
O fulfiller of hopes before they are voiced!

٣٤. حَقِّقْ إِذَنْ أَمَلِي وَأَنْجِزْ حَاجَتِي
يَا مُنْجِزَ الْحَاجَاتِ قَبْلَ سُؤَالِهَا

35. In your absence which has carried him far away,
Guard my father from the wolves of Time.

٣٥. وَاحْفَظْ أَبِي فِي غَيْبَةٍ شَطَّتْ بِهِ
وَاكْلَأْهُ مِنْ غُولِ النَّوَى وَخَبَالِهَا

36. Shield him where he dwells and hasten his return
Provide for him from your abundant riches.

٣٦. أَكْنِفْهُ حَيْثُ ثَوَى وَعَجِّلْ أَوْبَهُ
وَامْنَحْهُ مِنْ فَيْضِ الْغِنَى بِسِجَالِهَا

37. Intercede for us on Judgment Day so we may be
Of those delivered from its terrors and ordeals.

٣٧. وَاشْفَعْ لَنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَّنَا
نَغْدُو مِنَ النَّاجِينَ مِنْ أَهْوالِهَا

38. O scion of a tree that has grown high above the heavens,
And son of the sublime ones granted perfection.

٣٨. يَا فَرْعَ أَصْلٍ قَدْ سَمَا فَوْقَ السَّمَا
وَابْنَ الأُلَى مُنِحُوا النُّهَى بِكَمَالِهَا

39. To your lofty abode I send greetings
As long as the groves murmur with their songs.

٣٩. وَعَلَى مَقَامِكُمُ الْعَلِِّي تَحِيَّتِي
مَا رَدَّدَتْ وَرْقَاءُ فِي أَزْجَالِهَا

40. More fragrant than light, carried by the winds of life
Brought by the spirits fluttering in their robes.

٤٠. أَذْكَى مِنَ النُّوَّارِ أَرَّجَهُ الْحَيَا
وَأَتَتْ بِهِ الأَرْوَاحُ فِي أَذْيَالِهَا

41. Then blessings upon the Messenger, the Chosen One
The sun of creation, its crescent moon.

٤١. ثُمَّ الصَّلاَةُ عَلَى الرَّسُولِ الْمُصْطَفَى
خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ شَمْسِهَا وَهِلاَلِهَا

42. And his family and companions, as long as the morn breeze blows
And star clusters adorn the canopy of dusk.

٤٢. وَالآلِ وَالأَصْحابِ ما هَبَّتْ صَبَا
وَتَهَدَّلَتْ قُضْبُ الرُّبَى بِشَمَالِهَا
