1. The world allures us with its splendor
We feel safe, then darkness descends
١. هِيَ الدُّنْيَا يَغُرُّ بِنَا سَنَاهَا
فَنَأْمَنُهَا فَيَفْجَأُنَا دُجَاهَا
2. It promises fulfillment of desires
Yet ceaselessly it shoots its arrows
٢. تُعَلِّلُنَا بِإِدْرَاكِ الأَمَانِي
وَلاَ يَنْفَكُّ يَرْشُقُنَا رَدَاهَا
3. Had we but wisdom, we’d not be fooled
By the charms it flaunts before our eyes
٣. فَلَوْ أَنَّا عَقَلْنَا مَا لَهَوْنَا
بِمَا أَبْدَتْ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ حُلاَهَا
4. But passion harms us, desire misleads
As we vie for the jewels it dangles
٤. وَلَكِنَّا أَضَرَّ بِنَا هَوَاهَا
وَأَرْدَانَا التَّنَافُسُ فِي خَلاَهَا
5. Distraction stays, evil remains
Aiming arrows it deftly prepared
٥. أَنَلْهُو وَالرَّدَى فِينَا مُقِيمٌ
أَعَدَّ لَنَا نِبَالاً قَدْ بَرَاهَا
6. We hope for immortality here
While death spins its wheel round our loved ones
٦. وَنَرْجُو الْخُلْدَ فِيهَا وَالْمَنَايَا
تُدِيرُ عَلَى أَحِبَّتِنَا طِلاَهَا
7. Blow after blow makes us weep
For it will grind us in its mill
٧. وَتَفْجَعُنَا بِرُزْءٍ إِثْرَ رُزْءٍ
عَلَى أَنََّا سَتَطْحَنُنَا رَحَاهَا
8. The Merciful has watered a grave holding one
Who wore the raiment of nobility
٨. سَقَى الرَّحْمَانُ قَبْراً ضَمَّ شَخْصاً
تَسَرْبَلَ بِالْمَكَارِمِ وَارْتَدَاهَا
9. And refreshed the bed of a maid of truth
Who harbored virtues when she embraced them
٩. وَنَضَّرَ مَضْجِعاً لِفَتَاةِ صِدْقٍ
حَوَى غُرَرَ الْفَضَائِلِ إِذْ حَوَاهَا
10. She urged others towards high ideals
And mourned for those who shunned them
١٠. لَقَدْ كَانَتْ تَحُضُّ عَلَى الْمَعَالِي
وَتَنْدُبُ لِلْمَكَارِمِ مَنْ أَبَاهَا
11. She was a sun in the sky of merit
Brought down by death from its lofty orbit
١١. وَقَدْ كَانَتْ بِأُفْقِ الْفَضْلِ شَمْساً
فَحَطَّتْهَا الْمَنِيَّةُ عَنْ ذُرَاهَا
12. The owl of death clothed her in the garb of eclipse
Did not her overflowing virtue protect her?
١٢. وَأَلْبَسَهَا الْمَنُونُ مُلَى كُسُوفٍ
فَهَلاَّ فَضْلُهَا الْوَافِي حَمَاهَا
13. How often her gifts revived the despondent
Whom misfortunes had consigned to her care
١٣. فَكَمْ أَحْيَتْ مَوَاهِبُهَا كَئِيباً
أَحَلَّتْهُ النَّوَائِبُ فِي حِمَاهَا
14. How often she nurtured with her bounty an orphan
Whose mother perished before weaning him
١٤. وَكَمْ رَبَّتْ بِأَنْعُمِهَا يَتِيماً
قَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ حَتَّى سَلاَهَا
15. If she died, her charm died not
If she went, she took her loftiness with her
١٥. لَئِنْ مَاتَتْ فَمَا مَاتَتْ حُلاَهَا
وَإِنْ أَوْدَتْ فَمَا أَوْدَى عُلاَهَا
16. For she left shining achievements
That speak of her loftiness in her stead
١٦. فَقَدْ أَبْقَتْ مَآثِرَ مُشْرِقَات
تُخَبِّرُ عَنْ عُلاَهَا فِي نَوَاهَا
17. He who sires one such as you, cousin
Has stored up praise and acquired it in full
١٧. وَمَنْ يُنْجِبْ بِمِثْلِكَ يَا ابْنَ عَمِّي
فَقَدْ ذَخَرَ الْمَحَامِدَ وَاقْتَنَاهَا
18. Bear it with patience and fortitude
To be rewarded beyond measure
١٨. تَجَلَّدْ وَاحْتَسِبْ وَاصْبِرْ لِتُعْطَى
أُجُوراً لاَ يُحَاطُ بِمُنْتَهَاهَا
19. Grieve not, for soon we shall drink
The poison it made her drink
١٩. وَلاَ تَحْزَنْ فَإِنَّا عَنْ قَرِيبٍ
سَيَسْقِينَا الرَّدَى مِمَّا سَقَاهَا
20. May God grant her the best of steeds
And sanctify her soul and water her tomb
٢٠. جَزَاهَا اللهُ خَيْراً مِنْ حَصَانٍ
وَقَدَّسَ رُوحَهَا وَسَقَى ثَرَاهَا
21. The gardens of eternity continue to send her
The sweetest scents that they exhale
٢١. وَلاَ زَالَتْ جِنَانُ الْخُلْدِ تُهْدِي
إِلَيْهَا مَا تَأَرَّجَ مِنْ شَذَاهَا
