1. What is this estrangement, O solace of my heart,
Though I have done no wrong nor sinned?
١. مَاذَا التَّهَاجُرُ يَا مُنَى الْقَلْبِ
مِنْ غَيْرِ مَا جُرْمٍ وَلاَ ذَنْبِ
2. I ask God’s great forgiveness, though
I love you with utmost passion.
٢. أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ العَظيمَ عَدَا
أنِّي أُحِبُّكَ غَايَةَ الْحُبِّ
3. My pleading for your sublime beauty
O, that beautiful act, of youth,
٣. وَتَذَلُّلَي لِبَدِيعِ حُسْنِكُمُ
يَاحُسْنَ ذَاكَ الْفِعْلِ مِنْ صَبِّ
4. Join me to you, and cease reproaching me,
And remove the dread and fear.
٤. صِلْنِي أَصِلْكَ وَدَعْ مُعَاتَبَتِي
وَافْلُلْ شَبَاةَ الذُّعْرِ وَالرُّعْبِ
5. Let the fires of aloofness die down, for
Its flames have consumed my heart.
٥. وَلْتُطْفِ مِنْ نَارِ الصُّدُودِ فَقَدْ
أَفْنَى أُوَارُ لَهِيبِهَا قَلْبِي
6. Rejoice in the rule of a trusted youth,
Keen of insight, blow and stroke,
٦. وَاهْنَأْ بِمِلْكِ فَتىً أَخِي ثِقَةٍ
مُسْتَبْصِرٍ بِالطَّعْنِ وَالضَّرْبِ
7. Of virtue that protects him
From committing ugly sins,
٧. ذِيِ عِفَّةٍ تَحْمِيهِ هِمَّتُهُ
عَنْ أَنْ يَجِيءَ بِفَاحِشٍ نَكْبِ
8. I stand with his words and position
Regarding Ibn Al-Hussein and Amr of the dogs
٨. أزْرَى بِمِقْوَلِهِ وَمَنْصِبِهِ
بِابْنِ الْحُسَيْنِوَعَمْرٍو ذِي الْكَلْبِ
9. And upon you what the adorned woman sang
The most fragrant salutations, O solace of my heart
٩. وَعلَيكَ مَا غَنَّتْ مُطَوَّقَةٌ
أَزْكى سَلامي يَا مُنَى القلْبِ
10. More aromatic than the nisreen at dawn
Whose fragrances cure all sorrows
١٠. أَذْكى مِنَ النِّسْرينِ في سَحَرٍ
تُبْرِي رَوَائِحُهُ مِنَ اللَّسْبِ
