1. The time has come to fulfill the promise made
By one unseen, who has attained what no other attained,

2. One who attained knowledge and manifest glory,
And one who quenched from his father righteousness and guidance.

3. Chief of the best of mankind, mufti of Algiers,
From whose sea its scholars drew endless bounty.

4. My master, you have prolonged the wait of one expecting
A diploma, though it is the strongest staff he leaned upon.

5. Delay him not, for in the rich man’s delay there came
Signs of sincerity, that wrong in him appeared.

6. You know best of all the people of this age in their entirety,
This and one who did not say this has indeed denied.

7. Grant and fulfill, lest you be stripped of an honor
A diploma you did not deprive yourself of a pillar.

8. When I obtain it I will recite in joy and rapture
Good tidings, for luck has fulfilled what it promised.

9. O sea except that its tides hurl forth
Benefits and rulings, not froth.

10. May my Lord keep you in a state that chokes
One who came harboring hatred for you and tomorrow.

11. And may peace ever come to you perfumed like musk,
So long as a bird lamented its passion and intensified.
