1. Quench my thirst for the morn has come
With the zephyr's gentle breeze,

2. Mix it with the dew of dawn gleaming
And fill up the goblets, if you please,

3. Give me drink for the birds now singing
Herald the brilliant sun's release.

4. In the cups there lies a potion
To lift the spirits of the sad,

5. Drink it now for the time is blessed
Since the moon of thought has clad

6. Herself in beauty manifest,
And mankind’s guide the gloom forbade

7. As the raven dispelled the darkness
At the break of dawn afraid.

8. It’s a draft that melts the essence
Of those who taste its fervor boon,

9. Surpassing planets in its quintessence
On revelrous nights of June,

10. Blended by Alexandria’s soft winds
With petals from Iskandariyah strewn,

11. Thus perfumed with scent of sugar,
And aroma of sweet tib,

12. Resembling with its radiance temerarious
An old man’s fondest wish to imbibe,

13. Serve it to me black coffee dressed
To warm and arouse the broken.

14. Preserved for ages in the casks
By alchemy’s hand immune,

15. Till monks were seen to break their fasts
In the days of Abdoon,

16. Or when my heart was made distraught
By a beloved late and soon.

17. Reminded by a tryst's memory
In the shadows of the vine,

18. By my soul, O most beloved in love,
A tempting entertainer fine,

19. With a face as fair as the full moon,
Dark-lashed eyes that hunt and pine,

20. And turned away were my tearful eyes
When his love no more entwined,

21. Would that when severed was my patience
And enslaved my inner mind,

22. Clothed my body in sickness and pain
And uncovered my heart pined,

23. He might have feared the Beneficent
Regarding whom we were aligned,

24. For worry has ended my soul
And clothed me in shame outlined,

25. Describing my complexion with what was seen
In the urine of the jaundiced maligned.

26. O spirit of life, reunite the afflicted one
Crushed by overmastering love,

27. Think not the heart capable of treachery
Or harboring thereof,

28. No! And who was favored by God
Above all in the cosmos thereof,

29. The Messenger, the Chosen One, the Divinely-aided
With traits morally opportune,

30. Bestowed by God the beautiful character
And revelations secreted immune,

31. By him we were saved by the Merciful
From the darkness of uncertainty,

32. And God released us from the pledged allegiance
To the abomination of polytheistic asymmetry,

33. None in existence can describe the traits
Of this Meccan personality,

34. Sufficient for us are the Quran's verses
Everlasting in their opportunity,

35. Remaining recited over ages long
Compiled and secure, almighty,

36. The Seal of Prophets, the Chosen Guide
With path effulgent as day,

37. Whom God endowed with honor
On the night of ascension fey,

38. He suffices me in my worries and cares
His light eternally prey.

39. O Messenger of God, O sanctuary of comfort
O solace of those in melancholy overthrown

40. Sprinkle some cheer on the gloomy one
Made miserable by time’s ups and downs

41. With youth glistening and shining,
O clouds of generosity, O sea of grace

42. O greatest in magnanimity,
Be an intercessor for those who exceeded

43. In sins darkened impiety,
And quench the thirst of those fevered by sin,

44. With your overflowing cistern endowed,
You are most worthy to guard those consumed by passion

45. And the desperate madness prone,
The day the lovesick is clothed in humiliation,

46. From the torment of hellfire prone,
And upon you and your family may God send blessings and peace

47. And upon your courageous and steadfast companions,
Forever recited upon you whenever

48. The night is clad in the dress of dawn,
Take this gift to the one whose rein was slackened

49. In the blood of the orange grove drawn,
And who raided when morn appeared

50. In the battle of Iron’s sacred palm.
The night’s bosom was torn by the morn

51. Come quaff it, O cupbearers anon,
And for the newlywed bride there appeared

52. A hidden pearl, a treasured boon,
And we were called to delights of morn

53. By the bird of good fortune’s tune.
