Peace upon those virtues and merits,

1. Peace upon those virtues and merits,
And my Lord's mercy, for they are the finest necklaces.

2. Peace upon those noble traits, for they
Are the traits of the Bountiful, Abundant Giver.

3. Egypt measures by them her Nile-gift,
But the Nile falls short beside their liberality.

4. Where his abundance still flows to the expectant,
And where his bounty still comes to the absent,

5. And where delegations still come to meet him
From East and West, from rising to setting suns,

6. Egypt recites, knowing his superiority:
“My pride is in the sea of outstanding merits.”

7. And she hopes that by his remaining with her
She will keep, like the Nile, sweet flowing water.
