1. O breeze of Najd, blow to us now
For we are indebted for your path
١. صَبَا نَجْدٍ أَلاَ هُبِّي عَلَيْنَا
فَإِنَّا لَنَا عَلَى مَسْرَاكِ دَيْنَا
2. Often you cooled a hot thirst
Yearning for Buthaina or our Rudeina
٢. فَرُبَّتَمَا بَرَدْتِ غَلِيلِ صَبٍّ
يَحِنُّ إِلَى بُثَيْنَةَ أَوْ رُدَيْنَا
3. Your vehemence - have you seen - you'll never see it
Their abodes whose rising was in our hands
٣. أَجَدَّكِ هَلْ رَأَيْتِ وَلَنْ تَرَيْهَا
بُدُوراً كَانَ مَطْلَعُهُمْ لَدَيْنَا
4. They ascended the heights longing for your passion
There they rested while we attained satisfaction
٤. سَمَوْا صُعُداً إِلَى مَهْفَاكِ شَوْقاً
إِلَيْهِ فَاسْتَرَاحُوا وَاكْتَوَيْنَا
5. Did you witness their ascent so you would know
Their intention was not base
٥. فَهَلْ شَاهَدْتِ طَلْعَتَهُمْ فَتَدْرِيْ
بِأَنَّ نَوَاهُمُ مَا كَانَ هَيْنَا
6. Did you smell the radiance of their teeth
So you would know our debt between them is great
٦. وَهَلْ شِمْتِ الَّلوَامِعَ مِنْ سَنَاهُمْ
فَتَدْرِيْ قَدْرَ بَيْنِهِمُ عَلَيْنَا
7. Did you perceive the softness of their breath
So deform not a youth made wholesome by us
٧. وَهَلْ سُفْتِ النَّوَاسِمَ مِنْ شَذَاهُمْ
فَلاَ تَلْحَيْ فَتىً أَصْلَوْهُ بَيْنَا
8. Did you notice anything of their beauty
Then heap not blame if Buthaina is recalled
٨. وَهَلْ آنَسْتِ شَيْئاً مِنْ حُلاَهُمْ
فَلاَ تُزْرِيْ عَلَيْنَا إِنْ بَكَيْنَا
9. I swear if you knew one day
You would not have conveyed their tale to us
٩. فَأُقْسِمُ لَوْ عَلِمْتِ بِذَاكَ يَوْماً
لَمَا أَدَّيْتِ نَشْرَهُمُ إِلَيْنَا
10. You would blame our craving for them
And not a kind one if Buthaina is recalled
١٠. وَغِرْتِ مِنْ تَشَوُّقِنَا إِلَيْهِمْ
وَلاَ كَجَمِيلٍإِنْ ذُكِرَتْ بُثَيْنَا
11. You would be vexed by our passion for them
And reject gentleness and don bitterness
١١. وَصِرْتِ مِنْ عِدَانَا فِي هَوَاهُمْ
وَحُزْتِ قَسَاوَةً وَنَبَذْتِ لِينَا
12. If they travelled with the full moons of the nights
And the journey was an adornment for the moons
١٢. لَئِنْ سَارُوا بِأَقْمَارِ الدَّيَاجِي
وَكَانَ السَّيْرُ لِلأَقْمَارِ زَيْنَا
13. Then they enhanced the rising of the lights in beauty
While the setting of gloom was clad in disgrace
١٣. فَزَادُوا مَشْرِقَ الأَنْوَارِحُسْناً
فَسُرْبِلَ مَغْرِبُ الأَكْدَارِ شَيْنَا
14. They enfeebled while they have a claim over us
With their melting love whenever we walked
١٤. لَقَدْ أَشْلَوْا وَحَقِّهِمُ عَلَيْنَا
بِبَيْنِهِمُ الْمُذِيبِ الصَّخْرَ حَيْنَا
15. So the hearts from longing for them
Are tossed by the winds whenever we travelled
١٥. فَهَا الأَلْبَابُ مِنْ شَوْقٍ إِلَيْهِمْ
تُرَقِّصُهَا الرِّيَاحُ مَتَى سَرَيْنَا
16. And the livers do not cease burning
With the embers of passion as if there were sores in them
١٦. وَهَا الأَكْبَادُ لاَ تَأْلُو اصْطَلاَءً
بِجَمْرِ جَوىً كَأَنَّ بِهِنَّ قَيْنَا
17. We were not fearing separation
If called to a wineskin we would refuse
١٧. لَقَدْ كُنَّا وَمَا نَخْشَى فِرَاقاً
إِذَا نُدْعَى إِلَى كَمَدٍ أَبَيْنَا
18. And if passions turned us away one day
When we sensed their brilliance we were guided
١٨. وَإِنْ حَادَتْ بِنَا الأَهْوَاءُ يَوْماً
إِذَا شِمْنَا سَناً لَهُمُ اهْتَدَيْنَا
19. So we became while the meeting is the dearest thing
Whenever sadness shrieks at us we will return
١٩. فَصِرْنَا وَاللِّقَاءُ أَعَزُّ شَيْءٍ
مَتَى يَصْرُخْ بِنَا غَمٌّ رَدَيْنَا
20. And it lightened when we found that whenever
We delighted in recalling them we were vivified
٢٠. وَهَوَّنَ وَجْدَنَا أَنَّا مَتَى مَا
تَلَذَّذْنَا بِذِكْرِهِمُ انْتَشَيْنَا
21. And that wherever we turn to them
We see them in insights within our hands
٢١. وَأَنَّا حَيْثُمَا تُقْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ
نَرَاهُمْ بِالْبَصَائِرِ فِي يَدَيْنَا
22. And from absence we reckon nearness a proximity
And from farness we reckon thought a deliverance
٢٢. وَمِنْ فَقْدٍ نَعُدُّ الْبُعْدَ قُرْباً
وَمِنْ بُعْدٍ نَعُدُّ الْفِكْرَ أَيْنَا
23. And that we hope for them a bearer of good news
Who will say behold enjoy the company of the people, our eyes
٢٣. وَأَنَّا نَرْتَجِي لَهُمْ بَشِيراً
يَقُولُ أَلاَ انْعَمُوا بِالْقَوْمِ عَيْنَا
