1. The dawn of your guidance makes the mouth of time smile,
O One, from whose sea nations have come.
١. عَنْ نُورِ هَدْيِكَ ثَغْرُ الدَّهْرِ مُبْتَسِمُ
يَا وَاحِداُ وَرَدَتْ مِنْ بَحْرِهِ أُمَمُ
2. Fez rejoiced when you stayed there,
And without your sublime presence, Fez would not exist.
٢. هَشَّتْ لِلُقْيَاكَ فَاسٌ إِذْ حَلَلْتَ بِهَا
وَفَاسُ لَوْلاَ سَنَا وُجُودِكُمْ عَدَمُ
3. Its splendor is due to you, my Master, everlasting,
And its joy is due to you, my Master, ever bonding.
٣. فَزَهْوُهَا بِكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ مُنْتَظِمٌ
وَأُنْسُهَا بِكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ مُلْتَئِمُ
4. You gladdened your servant when he came to you depressed.
Indeed, anguish recedes with nearing you.
٤. أَبْهَجْتَ عَبْدَكَ إِذْ وَافَاكَ مُكْتَئِباً
إِنَّ الْجَوَى بِدُنُوٍّ مِنْكَ يَنْحَسِمُ
5. He came to you seeking the path of An-Nasiriyyah, for
In An-Nasiriyyah is a lasting victory.
٥. وَافَاكَ يَطْلُبُ نَهْجَ النَّاصِرِيَّةِ إِذْ
فِي النَّاصِرِيَّةِ نَصْرٌ لَيْسَ يَنْصَرِمُ
6. Woe to it - what it desired was not worthy of itself.
The most beautiful appearance makes ready for the like of it.
٦. وَاهًا لَهَا رَغْبَةً مَا كَانَ أَنْفَسَهَا
لِمِثْلِهَا تَسْتَعِدُّ الأَيْنُقُ الرُّسُمُ
7. You gave him respite until morning, so he stayed up all night
Kept awake by passion when dreams failed him.
٧. أَمْهَلْتَهُ لِغَدٍ فَبَاتَ فِي سَهَرٍ
يُنْجِدُهُ الْوَجْدُ إِذْ أَعْوَزَهُ الْحُلُمُ
8. He speaks to the night to unveil its darkness
And reveal the dawn, a sign for the beloved.
٨. يُخَاطِبُ اللَّيْلَ كَيْ تَفْتَرُّ دُهْمَتُهُ
عَنْ ثَغْرِ صُبْحٍ فَيَبْدُو لِلْمُنَى عَلَمُ
9. O ambergris of night, camphor of morning, come back,
Lest old age overtakes me due to your length.
٩. يَا عَنْبَرَ اللَّيْلِ كَافُورَ الصَّبَاحِ أَعِدْ
قَدْ كَادَ يَلْحَقُنِي مِنْ طُولِكَ الْهَرَمُ
10. If you do not bring me the morn, I will wake up in sorrow
And ah! A heart blazing over one whose heart is unfeeling.
١٠. إِنْ لَمْ تَجُدْ لِي بِصُبْحٍ صِحْتُ مِنْ أَسَفٍ
وَا حَرَّ قَلْباهُ مِمَّنْ قَلْبُهُ شَبِمُ
11. You remain the standard of knowledge by which
The darkness of ignorance is illuminated when it becomes crowded.
١١. لاَزِلْتَ مِقْبَاسَ عِلْمٍ يُسْتَضَاءُ بِهِ
إِذَا بَدَتْ ظُلُمَاتُ الْجَهْلِ تَزْدَحِمُ
