1. Is this the breeze from the land of Sharrabah,
Or is it musk that blew with the breeze?

2. From the abode of Ablah, a fire appeared.
Or did lightning strike from an angry cloud?

3. My longing for Ablah has increased,
Yet I do not see fate drawing my beloved near.

4. How many calamities have I endured,
For your sake, O daughter of my uncle!

5. If only your eyes could see me on the day we meet,
It would increase the love you have for me.

6. My spear drips with the blood of sacrifices,
And my lance pierces along with the armor.

7. I rejoice with the sword amidst the dust,
When I strike with it a thousand blows.

8. The horses testify for me on the day of thrusting
That I scatter them into a thousand flocks.

9. And if my skin appears black,
I have glory and rank in chivalry.

10. If the Arabs prayed on the day of calamity
I would be the Arabs’ Ka’bah.

11. If death had a visible form,
I would frighten it and intensify its fear.
