1. O breeze of Hejaz, by the right of the One who created you
Return my greetings and give life to the one who greeted you

١. ريحَ الحِجازِ بِحَقِّ مَن أَنشاكِ
رُدّي السَلامَ وَحَيِّ مَن حَيّاكِ

2. Blow gently, perhaps you will find my longing abating
And the fires of my passion cooling in your breeze

٢. هُبّي عَسى وَجدي يَخِفُّ وَتَنطَفي
نيرانُ أَشواقي بِبَردِ هَواكِ

3. O breeze, were it not for the remnant of perfume
From the mounts of Abila that clings to you still

٣. يا ريحُ لَولا أَنَّ فيكِ بَقِيَّةً
مِن طيبِ عَبلَةَ مُتُّ قَبلَ لِقاكِ

4. How could I bear this, when I have not heard doves mourning
Except that I was the first to weep with them

٤. كَيفَ السُلُوُّ وَما سَمِعتُ حَمائِماً
يَندُبنَ إِلّا كُنتُ أَوَّلَ باكي

5. After visiting her grave, the image of her departed
Has vanished from me, leaving but barren ruins behind

٥. بَعُدَ المَزارُ فَعادَ طَيفُ خَيالَها
عَنّي قِفارَ مَهامِهِ الأَعناكِ

6. O Abila, I do not fear the doves, but rather
I fear for your eyes at the time of weeping

٦. يا عَبلَ ما أَخشى الحِمامِ وَإِنَّما
أَخشى عَلى عَينَيكِ وَقتَ بُكاكِ

7. O Abila, do not grieve for my absence, and rejoice
In my safety, take comfort in my deliverance

٧. يا عَبلَ لا يَحزُنكِ بُعدي وَاِبشِري
بِسَلامَتي وَاِستَبشِري بِفَكاكي

8. Why did you not ask the horses, o daughter of Malik
If some of your enemies have fooled you

٨. هَلّا سَأَلتِ الخَيلَ يا اِبنَةَ مالِكٍ
إِن كانَ بَعضُ عِداكِ قَد أَغراكِ

9. They would tell you, I who was in Damascus
Have sifted affection from those who sought my demise

٩. يُخبِركِ مَن حَضَرَ الشَآمَ بِأَنَّني
أَصفَيتُ وُدّاً مَن أَرادَ هَلاكي

10. The misguided ones conspired against me and by morning
They pleaded for mercy from my deadly sword

١٠. ذَلَّ الأُلى اِحتالوا عَلَيَّ وَأَصبَحوا
يَتَشَفَّعونَ بِسَيفِيَ الفَتّاكِ

11. So I pardoned their wealth and their women
And protected a quarter of the people, like protective cover

١١. فَعَفَوتُ عَن أَموالِهِم وَحَريمِهِم
وَحَمَيتُ رَبعَ القَومِ مِثلِ حِماكِ

12. And I charged against the non-Arabs with a raid
That shook the celestial angels in the cosmic spheres

١٢. وَلَقَد حَمَلتُ عَلى الأَعاجِمِ حِملَةً
ضَجَّت لَها الأَملاكُ في الأَفلاكِ

13. Scattering them when they came upon me in the open desert
With the piercing point of a blood-letting spear

١٣. فَنَثَرتُهُم لَمّا أَتَوني في الفَلا
بِسِنانِ رُمحٍ لِلدِما سَفّاكِ
