The wail of a mourner in the night

1. The wail of a mourner in the night
With chains that keep her from sleep alongside the meek

2. Crossed my path while I was walking, so she asked me
With one question, and I ask about my ancestry

3. So I said to her: As for the leg of a free man
It was evident early on among the Thamud

4. And she said: “You will never see ancestry
With your eyes in the last of your new life”

5. Both of us turned away from the other in despair
And rebuke and a distant sorrow
