1. Patience is good, so be patient
And seek refuge in Allah from misfortune

2. Make patience as your armor
For patience is the key to triumph

3. All who I have heard of
Attained good through patience, know this

4. In patience there is protection for you
From the onslaught of worries when they attack

5. Misfortune may return to me despite my caution
Perhaps caution itself leads to misfortune

6. Allah has ordained for me
That I do not see a day of joy to delight in

7. I shun the world's pleasures
If possessing them would make people worship me

8. In my heart, though you've done no wrong
Is a burning ignited by sight

9. My eyes dragged grief to my heart
So may Allah give my heart relief from sight

10. Being estranged from you increased my longing
Perhaps longing grows for one estranged

11. Wondrous that my love for you
Became, for you, a sin beyond forgiveness

12. Your forgiveness is boundless despite my hide
So forgive my sin though it be grave

13. Death surely has ways to me
Except death only comes by divine decree

14. People blamed me for loving you
Lost is he who scolded you and failed

15. You have a nobility, a perfection, a grace
The nobility of peerless love

16. When you desire to enslave someone
You unleash an arrow to wound

17. He becomes a slave, moving only
As his Master obliges and commands

18. I have become, in loving you
Between two states, both calamitous

19. Between estrangement and remoteness which ignited
Fires aflame in the heart's depths

20. Make yourself an ally for me
Through you alone from you will I prevail

21. In estrangement there is complex malady
And love's illness is most severe
