2. It corrupts the pious after their devoutness,
And distracts a person from their pursuits.

ูข. ูŠููุณูุฏู ุฐุง ุงู„ุฏู‘ูŠู†ู ุจูŽุนุฏูŽ ุนููู‘ูŽุชูู‡
ูˆูŽูŠูุฐู‡ูู„ู ุงู„ู…ูŽุฑุกูŽ ุนูŽู† ู…ูŽุขุฑูุจูู‡

3. Love is a fire that knows no dying down,
Leaving the lover utterly confounded.

ูฃ. ุงู„ุญูุจู‘ู ู†ุงุฑูŒ ูˆูŽู„ุง ุฎูู…ูˆุฏูŒ ู„ูŽู‡ุง
ุชูŽุชุฑููƒู ุฐุง ุงู„ู„ู‘ูุจู‘ู ุฌุฏู‘ ุนุงุฒูุจูู‡

4. Then it abandons the joints of the lover,
Igniting sickness throughout their body.

5. No friend of love is one bored by it,
Or who casts off the rope above the well.

ู…ูŽู† ูŠูŽุทุฑูŽุญู ุงู„ุญูŽุจู„ูŽ ููŽูˆู‚ูŽ ุบุงุฑูุจูู‡

6. One takes from it what appeals to them,
Without patience for its tribulations.

ุบูŽูŠุฑูŽ ุตูŽุจูˆุฑู ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู†ูŽูˆุงูŠูุจูู‡

7. Iโ€™ve seen no malady or remedy for it,
Except what can be measured against love.

ุฅูู„ู‘ูŽุง ูˆูŽููŠ ุงู„ุญูุจู‘ู ู…ุง ูŠูู‚ุงุณู ุจูู‡

8. Asking about love one enveloped by it,
Is not like an eyewitnessโ€™s account.

ูจ. ุณุงุฆูู„ ุนูŽู†ู ุงู„ุญูุจู‘ู ู…ู† ุชูŽุถูŽู…ู‘ูŽู†ูŽู‡
ู…ุง ุดุงู‡ูุฏู ุงู„ุฃูŽู…ุฑู ู…ูุซู„ู ุบุงูŠูุจูู‡

9. None who have tried love and transcended it,
Except saw death in their trials.

10. And none who saw death in their trials,
Except a loyal friend to their beloved.

11. Look to the pious believer who all peopleโ€™s
Tongues speak of their virtues.

ูกูก. ุงู†ุธูุฑ ุฅูู„ู‰ ุงู„ู…ูุคู…ูู†ู ุงู„ู‘ูŽุฐูŠ ุงูุฌุชูŽู…ูŽุนูŽุช
ุฃูŽู„ุณูู†ูŽุฉู ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุงุณู ููŠ ู…ูŽู†ุงู‚ูุจูู‡

12. After the prayer mat laid out,
Gleaming to the eye above their brow.

ูกูข. ู…ูู† ุจูŽุนุฏู ุณุฌู‘ูŽุงุฏุฉ ู…ุฑูŽูƒู‘ูŽุจูŽุฉู
ุชูŽู„ูˆุญู ู„ูู„ุนูŽูŠู†ู ููŽูˆู‚ูŽ ุญุงุฌูุจูู‡

13. With a beard like a grove, so full,
Most befitting the curve of their chin.

ุฃูŽู„ูŠู‚ู ุดูŽูŠุกู ุจูุญููู‘ู ุดุงุฑูุจูู‡

14. They do not raise their gaze to the heavens,
For fear and awe of their Reckoner.

ูกูค. ู„ุง ูŠูŽุฑููŽุนู ุงู„ุทู‘ูŽุฑููŽ ููŠ ุงู„ุณู‘ูŽู…ุงุกู ู…ู† ุงู„
ุฅูุดูุงู‚ู ูˆูŽุงู„ุฎูŽูˆูู ู…ู† ู…ูุญุงุณูุจูู‡

15. What their reaching hand fell short of,
Was granted to fate and destiny.

16. Beauty flowed over their brow,
Coursing to their temples.

ููŽู…ูŽุฑู‘ูŽ ูŠูŽุฌุฑูŠ ุฅูู„ู‰ ุชุฑุงูŠูุจูู‡

17. Then it converged on their nails,
Vanishing before the criticโ€™s eye.

ููŽุงูู†ุทูŽู…ูŽุณูŽุช ุซู…ู‘ูŽ ุนูŽูŠู†ู ุนุงูŠูุจูู‡

18. Then restored it twofold,
The pouring hand fixed their beauty.

ููŽุซูŽุจู‘ูŽุชูŽ ุงู„ุญูุณู†ูŽ ูƒูŽูู‘ู ุณุงูƒูุจูู‡

19. So beauty in them is double, and their
Nature is miserly towards seekers.

ุดูŠู…ูŽุฉู ุจูุฎู„ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู…ุทุงู„ูุจูู‡

20. God created none other like them,
In the east or west of the world.

ูขู . ู„ูŽู… ูŠูŽุฎู„ูู‚ู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ู…ูุซู„ูŽู‡ู ุฃูŽุญูŽุฏุงู‹
ููŠ ู…ูŽุดุฑูู‚ู ุงู„ุฃูŽุฑุถู ุฃูŽูˆ ู…ูŽุบุงุฑูุจูู‡

21. As if they are an idol depicted,
Worshipped by the priest in battle.

ูขูก. ูƒูŽุฃูŽู†ู‘ูŽู‡ู ุฏูู…ูŠูŽุฉูŒ ู…ูุตูŽูˆู‘ูŽุฑูŽุฉูŒ
ูŠูŽุนุจูุฏูู‡ุง ุงู„ู‚ูŽุณู‘ู ููŠ ู…ูŽุญุงุฑูุจูู‡

22. Depicted by a monk and adorned,
Then seized by the priest from the monk.

ูขูข. ุตูŽูˆู‘ูŽุฑูŽู‡ุง ุฑุงู‡ูุจูŒ ูˆูŽุฒูŽุฎุฑูŽููŽู‡ุง
ููŽุงูุจุชูŽุฒู‘ูŽู‡ุง ุงู„ู‚ูŽุณู‘ู ุฏูˆู†ูŽ ุฑุงู‡ูุจูู‡

23. Both contested it bitterly,
Each gouging out the eye of the other.

ูขูฃ. ุชูŽู†ุงุฒูŽุนุงู‡ุง ูƒูู„ุงู‡ูู…ุง ุญูŽู†ูู‚ูŒ
ูŠูŽูู‚ูŽุฃ ุจูุงู„ุณู‘ูู†ู‘ู ุนูŽูŠู†ูŽ ุตุงุญูุจูู‡

24. And the priest rallied his followers,
Strutting in his scripture.

ูขูค. ูˆูŽุฃูŽุฌู„ูŽุจูŽ ุงู„ู‚ุณู‘ู ุฃูŽู‡ู„ูŽ ุจูŠุนูŽุชูู‡
ูˆูŽุฌุงุกูŽ ูŠูŽุฎุชุงู„ู ููŠ ูƒุชุงูŠูุจูู‡

25. He protected it beyond what his hand,
Contained of possessions and desires.

ูขูฅ. ููŽุตุงู†ูŽู‡ุง ุฏูˆู†ูŽ ู…ุง ุญูŽูˆูŽุช ูŠูŽุฏูู‡
ู…ูู† ุฌูู„ู‘ู ู…ุงู„ู ูˆูŽู…ูู† ุฑูŽุบุงูŠูุจูู‡

26. Raiding his followers,
Like Kisraโ€™s raids on his neighbors.

ูขูฆ. ูŠูŽุณุทูˆ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ุฃูŽู‡ู„ู ุจูŠุนูŽุชูู‡
ูƒูŽุณูŽุทูˆู ูƒูุณุฑู‰ ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู…ูŽุฑุงุฒูุจูู‡

27. Ibn Abbad weeps, he indeed
Has virtues I will relate, no liar.

ููŽุถู„ุงู‹ ุณูŽุฃูุจุฏููŠู‡ู ุบูŽูŠุฑ ูƒุงุฐูุจูู‡

28. In his words a melody that rivals
The flowing of piercing pearls.

ุฏูุฑุงู‹ ุฌูŽุฑู‰ ู…ูู† ุณูู„ูˆูƒู ุซุงู‚ูุจูุฉ

29. When he takes the pulpit, hands
Folded at his sides.

ูขูฉ. ุฅูุฐุง ุนูŽู„ุง ู…ูŽูˆุถูุน ุงู„ุญู‚ุงุจู ูˆูŽู‚ูŽุฏ
ุถูŽู…ู‘ูŽ ูŠูŽุฏูŽูŠู‡ู ุนูŽู„ู‰ ู…ูŽู†ุงูƒูุจูู‡

30. Woe to him, a mount to its rider!
God will not disappoint his pursuits.
