1. The Tigris came to me as it came
What can the sea do that you can do?
١. أَتَتنِيَ دِجلَةُ فيما أَتَت
فَما يَصنَعُ البَحرُ ما تَصنَعُ
2. How many walls do we have leaning
And others bow or kneel
٢. فَكَم مِن جِدارٍ لَنا مائِلٍ
وَآخَرَ يَسجُدُ أَو يَركَعُ
3. The ceiling rains on us between us
And beneath us eyes well up
٣. وَيُمطِرُنا السَقفُ مِن بَينِنا
وَمِن تَحتِنا أَعيُنٌ تَنبُعُ
4. Our orchard has become marshes
Where frogs praise in its waters
٤. وَأَصبَحَ بُستانُنا جَوبَةً
يُسَبِّحُ في مائِها الضِفدَعُ
