1. I was taken from wine and revelry,
And old age stripped me of youth.
١. أُخِذتُ مِنَ المُدامَةِ وَالتَصابي
وَعَرّاني المَشيبُ مِنَ الشَبابِ
2. My youth was written lines of beauty,
So I erased those lines from the book.
٢. وَقَد كانَ الشَبابُ سُطورَ حُسني
فَمَحَّيتُ السُطورَ مِنَ الكِتابِ
