1. My heart is like the claws of a bird
That woke at dawn then slept when you were lost.
١. كَأَنَّ فُؤادي في مَخاليبِ طائِرٍ
غَدا صُبحَ يَومٍ ثُمَّ باتَ عَلى فَقدِ
2. When he prepares to seize his prey, he spreads
His wings like sleeves lined white with winter frost.
٢. إِذا ما أَرادَ الصَيدَ جَلّى لِنَهضَةٍ
وَهَزَّ جَناحَيهِ كَحاشِيَتَي بُردِ
3. He folds his claws upon it, as if they
Were strands of rope all gathered in a knot.
٣. فَضَمَّ مَخاليباً عَليهِ كَأَنَّها
شُصوصُ حِبالٍ قَد جُمِعنَ إِلى عِقدِ
