1. Drink from a cup in the hands of a pampered peacock
Immersed in luxury, soaked in bliss
١. إِشرَب بِكَأسٍ مِن كَفِّ طاوُوسِ
مُدَلَّلٍ في النَعيمِ مَغموسِ
2. Long have I stood waiting for him
For a tryst imprisoned in promises
٢. طالَ وُقوفي عَلَيهِ مُنتَظِراً
لِمَوعِدٍ في المِطالِ مَحبوسِ
3. In my hands I have nothing of him but the grasp of my hands
And perhaps in love, many fortunes are ill-omened
٣. ما في يَدي مِنهُ غَيرُ عَضُّ يَدي
وَرُبَّ بَختٍ في الحُبِّ مَنحوسِ
4. His waist did not lack belts
From drawing swords and carrying daggers
٤. لَم تَخلُ في خَصرِهِ مَناطِقُهُ
مِن جَذبِ سَيفٍ وَحَملِ دَبوسِ
5. A gazelle who sees its glance so stones it
Yet he is a fierce, unbroken lion
٥. ظَبيٌ يَرى طَرفَهُ فَيَرجُمُهُ
وَهوَ سِوى ذاكَ لَيثُ عِرّيسِ
6. The young man cannot hope to gain him
Even if granted the throne of Bilqis
٦. لا يَطمَعُ الصَبُّ فيهِ في دَرَكٍ
وَلَو حَباهُ بِعَرشِ بَلقيسِ
7. O Lord, hasten what relief You see fit
And relieve my distress with solace
٧. يا رَبِّ عَجِّل مِمّا تَرى فَرَجي
وَاِقضِ لِكَربي مِنهُ بِتَنفيسِ
8. How long will I rave confused
Like one insane, possessed
٨. وَكَم وَحَتّى أَهيمُ مِن وَلَهٍ
كَذي جُنونِ الخَبالِ مَمسوسِ
