1. My heart was disturbed, so it raged against me
When the cheek's beauty aimed its arrows at me.
١. طَرِبَ الفُؤادُ فَهاجَ لي دَدَني
لَمّا حَدَونَ ثَوانِيَ الظُعنِ
2. And where might the fawn head to
Except to Yemen's most verdant valleys?
٢. وَالعيسُ أَنّى هِي تُوَجِّهُهُ
شَأَماً وَهُنَّ سَواكِنُ اليَمَنِ
3. Then it struck with a sand-grouse's belly
And tore open the wounds deep in my heart.
٣. ثُمَّ اِندَفَعنَ بِبَطنِ ذي عُبَبٍ
وَنَكَأنَ قَرحَ فُؤادي الضَمِنِ
