1. Her veil was lifted and curtains drawn around,
Though I travel far, her light needs no unveiling.

2. Modest, seeking glory only through her neighbor,
Yet the purely rich are still her beggars.

3. She appeared but hid her jewelry from sight,
Her brilliance cloaking the nights in their cycles.

4. Angels circle around her at every moment,
Though no trace of her passing lingers among men.

5. From all quarters bowing to her face,
Whether she hides away or her palaces appear.

6. We crossed the desert, fearing not the perils -
Its easy sands or rough terrain before her.

7. A prophet undaunted by the desolate wastes, we are all
Enraptured souls longing for her cool waters.

8. Can danger deter a soul filled with yearning
Who keeps vigil whilst she wraps the night around her?

9. I say to my friends, it is as if the barren land
Were pages where she wrote with the mounts her lines.

10. Tread the expanse, this is Layla's enclosure,
And over there, her dwellings.

11. She called us and we responded, coming to her
As paupers roused when she signals awakening.

12. Bowed bareheaded in the dust that glittered joyously,
Her coffers increased and her happiness overbrimmed.

13. For seven times we circled her shade which draped
Over a timid man like me who came to seek her refuge.

14. So rejoice my eyes! Her soil lies before you,
No eyelid that saw her splendor ever unfurled again.

15. My eyes are blind to all but visions of her, such devotion
Fulfills those who attain her rewards.

16. Circle around her my aspirations, for my heart dwells with her,
And the presence of hearts is the mark of their sincerity.

17. If traversing the earth on foot towards her were possible,
By God, I would hasten persistently to her.

18. Blessed are the eyes ennobled by her dust,
Fulfilled by kissing her soil to pay vows sworn.

19. May God water the pilgrims' days in Mina
With her gifts, and to me grant a return...

20. If I drank from it the markets would cease their haggling,
And call its short supply precious though plentiful.

21. With it Zamzam's flow turned sweet when she was recalled,
And the singer's melody was perfected by mentioning her.

22. All fair descriptions voiced charm the hearing,
So whoever described it borrowed excellence from her.

23. Every heart enslaved by passion serves her love,
And every unfettered soul in love is her captive.

24. In every land she graces, a garden blooms
Whence flows from each eye a stream inspired by her.

25. If my soul attained its secret wish of her without dying,
No harm could come to souls that she replenishes.

26. When it is said this is a spring without her roses,
Calligraphers with roses have adorned their books.

27. The sweetest reunion is that whose attainment
Tested my mettle and stretched my aspirations to their limits.

28. How can the soul fear loss in seeking her
When that Hashimi prophet is her vigilant guard?

29. Muhammad, sent as a mercy to the worlds,
The guiding prophet, warner of mankind.

30. Her intercessor on Judgment Day before her Lord,
Her rescuer from the Fire, her grantor of refuge.

31. The first whose coffin will open when
Tombs are strewn throughout the two worlds.

32. We came to her defender, and at his Pool
We were refreshed - salvation's herald, its giver.

33. We still hope to return to his house
When the rites of Hajj are completed in full.

34. For the Hajj is not complete unless we stand
At his place, visiting the traces left by him.

35. Blessings of God upon him as long as the morning breeze blows
And as long as the southern winds comb barren hills.
