1. With praising the Messenger I raise my worth
And hope by composing his virtues to shed my burden
١. بمدح الرسول أرفع قدري
وأرجي بنظمه حط وزري
2. He whom God has granted sublime traits
Is free from any prose or verse
٢. أن من قد اسنى الإله عليه
لغني عن كل نظم ونثر
3. It suffices him what God revealed to him
Of praise from people and gratitude
٣. وكفاه ما أنزال الله فيه
من ثناء من الأنام وشكر
4. It is the habit of lovers to be infatuated
With mentioning the beloved which infatuation drives
٤. إنما عادة المحبين أن يغروا
بذكر الأحباب والحب يغري
5. And when longing summons them to his door
Across every land and sea
٥. وإذا ما دعاهم الشوق لبو
ه على ظهر كل بر وبحر
6. They find him pleasing and meet their ends
Anytime between dawn and dusk
٦. واستطابوا فيه وردو المنايا
والتقوها ما بين سحر ونحر
7. They take shelter in passion during hardship
With yearning that melts the ember’s heart
٧. واسستظلوا الهواجر في الفقر
بشوق يذيب قلب الجمر
8. And are illuminated in their dark night by the beauty of fervor
Thus they become like orbiting stars
٨. واستضاءوا في ليلهم بسنا الوجد
فباتوا مثل الكواكب تسري
9. And rise between burning anguish tearing up the soil
And tears flowing down the cheeks
٩. وغدوا بين لوعة تخرق الترب
ودمع على الترائب يجري
10. And when nearing the heavenly oasis they see
The one who made the domes bloom to blossom
١٠. وإذا شارفوا العقيق تراءوا
من رباه سنا القباب لزهر
11. And the herald of reunions welcomes them
With acceptance flowing near dawn
١١. وتلقاهمو بشير التلاقي
بقبول تسري قبيل الفجر
12. And the fragrance of the garden between the most pure
Pulpit in our world and the noblest grave
١٢. وشذا الروضة التي بين أزكى
منبر فيالدنا واشرف قبر
13. Blessed is that noble stand
That purchases its day with all life
١٣. حبذا ذاك من مقام كريم
يشتري يومه بكل العمر
14. Where glory manifested and they lowered themselves to the ground
To perform the prostration of gratitude
١٤. حيث لاح الحما وأهووا إلى الأرض
ليقضوا بها سجود الشكر
15. Then they stood facing the one whose shade
Shades people on Judgement Day
١٥. ثم قاموا تجاه من ظله الضا
في يظل الأنام يوم الحشر
16. His majesty confined their praises
To pouring out what pent up sorrows lie in their chests
١٦. وثناهم ببابه حصر الهيبة في
بث شوقهم عن حصر
17. Then they carried out what brings triumph and nearness to him
Upon them from vows
١٧. فاكتفوا بالدموع تعرب عن كل
أدواء غلة في الصدر
18. And they dwelled in safety had fear not drove
The caravan leader to flee in panic
١٨. ثم أدوا ما أوجب الفوز بالقرب
إليه عليهمو من نذر
19. The closeness of proximity did not diminish the rift of distance
Until the hands of parting dispersed them
١٩. وأقاموا في الأمن لولم يرعهم
صدر الركب عن حماة بذعر
20. Each pilgrim then returned from his door
With the most generous boons
٢٠. ما طوى القرب شقة البعد حتى
عاجلتها يد الفراق بنشر
21. The most noble of people hoped from him
The honor of the wealthy through giving like the destitute
٢١. إنما عاد كل فرد من الزوار
عن بابه بأجزل وفر
22. Thus they gained acceptance from him despite leaving
In pride and most beneficial provisions
٢٢. أكرم الخلق أملوه وراموا
منه عز الغني بذل الفقر
23. And put on the garb of content after leaving him
Stripped of the clothes of sins
٢٣. فحووا اللاخرى به من قبول السعي
أو في فخر وأنفع ذخر
24. The elect of God, seal of messengers, best of creations
Guide of faith while disbelief thrives
٢٤. واكتسوا بالرضي وقد فارقوه
حلة عن ملابس الذنب تعرى
25. God singled him out in scripture’s mention
The Wise revelation, most sublime remembrance
٢٥. صفوة الله خاتم الرسل خير الخلق
مبدي افيمان ما حي الكفر
26. The angels supported him on Ohud Day
And Badr and fought on Badr Day
٢٦. خصه الله منزل الكتب في الذكر
الحكيم الموحي أرفع ذكر
27. And the trees came to him when he called them
Then turned submissively to the command
٢٧. أنجدته الأملاك يوم حنين
وببدر وقاتلت يوم بدر
28. Likewise pebbles in his hands glorified
Proclaiming in their prayers and praise
٢٨. وأتته الشجارلما دعاها
ثم ولت مطبعة للأمر
29. And so did the rocks send him greetings
How many like him has any rock seen?
٢٩. وكذاسبح الحصى في يديه
معلناً في تسبيحه والذكر
30. Wondrous are the hearts of a folk whose love he won
Yet became like solid stone in refusal
٣٠. وكذاك الأحجار أبدت سلاملا
كم ترى فات مثله ذا حجر
31. And the yearning of the palm trunk which spilled its wine
Became one that fears its abandonment
٣١. عجباً من قلوب قوم ثناها الغي
عما وعاد صلد الصخر
32. This is the state of inanimate things so tell me
Do I have in this any excuse?
٣٢. وحنين الجذع الذي أذرقى المنى
اضحى ممن يخوف لهجر
33. The camel came to him complaining
Of his exhaustion and harm
٣٣. هذه حالة الجماد فقل لي
هل لمثلي في مثلها من عذر
34. And Jabir complained to him of the weight of debt and need
With his creditor in hardship
٣٤. واتاه البعير يشكو إليه
ما به من هنائه والضر
35. And he had dates but some of them
Fulfilled with his entire stock of dates
٣٥. وشكى جابر له ثقل الدين والحاج
خصمه في العسر
36. So he came and took his fill from it
And his state became one of abundance
٣٦. ولديه تمر بوفيهم البعض
بمجموع ماله من تمر
37. And likewise the date palms Sallam planted that year
Blossomed beautifully with new shoots and fruits
٣٧. فأتاه فاكتال حقهم منه
واضحى كحاله في الوفر
38. And they came complaining the land was
Barren, destitute and deprived of rain
٣٨. وكذا غرس نخل سلمان في العام
بدا زاهياً بطلع وبسر
39. The withholding of its drops caused crops and udders to dry
And springs and pools were lost
٣٩. وأتوه يشكون جديا كالأرض
شعاراً من الفقار الغبر
40. So he prayed while the sky was without clouds
And it poured down rain in every region
٤٠. جف من حبس قطره الزرع والضرع
وضاعت ظما وحوض البر
41. Continuously until they came to appeal
To the judge of the barrens
٤١. وفدعا والسماء ليس بها غيم
فجادت بالقطر في كل قطر
42. His miracles, if one tried to count them
He'd attempt to tally pebbles and pearls
٤٢. وتوالت حتى أتوه ليتصحفوا
إلى اقاضي القفر
43. I wonder, will there be after this remoteness
A meeting to heal my burning chest?
٤٣. معجزات من رام احصاءها
حاول حصر الحصى وعد الدر
44. I had patience and carried these burdens this time
But here, the building of patience collapsed
٤٤. ليت شعري هل بعد هذه التنائي
من لقاء يشفي لواعج صدري
45. Then it was too narrow for the hopes' tribulations
And outstretching aspirations, the lifetime's limit
٤٥. كنت بالصبر واثاقيل ذا الوقت
وها قد وهي بناء الصبر
46. I have no cunning in it and fear of losing
What I wish confuses my thoughts
٤٦. ثم قد ضاق عن بلوع الأماني
وامتداد الآمال ذرع العمر
47. And how the hands of frustration and grief
And despair in it have torn apart my matter
٤٧. ما احتيالي فيه وخوف اغتيالي
دون ما ارتيه حير فكري
48. So to God I complain and hope
The responder to the desperate relieves the harm
٤٨. ولكم فرقت يد العجز والحر
مان والياس منه مجموع أمري
49. And when what was destined to meet him before is done
My sorrow will be remedied at its mending
٤٩. فالى الله اشتكي وارجي
من مجيب المصطر كشف الضر
50. Therefore prayers to God flow to him
As the first light appears in the horizon
٥٠. وغذا ما قضيت من قبل لقياه
كسري فعند جبر كسري
51. And the gaze of the brilliant sun manifests
And crosses with the morning's blossoming branch
٥١. فصلاة الإله تسري إليه
ما تبدت في الأفلقق غرة فجر
٥٢. واجتلي ناظر سنا الشمس
واجتازت ونور الصبا بغصن نضر
