1. Surely my procrastination will end with a day of regret,
Shall I hope, after old age, to regain my youth?

2. Why do I believe in the hereafter yet do not see
My soul preparing provisions for my future abode?

3. So if I am stripped of what I strove to gain,
And spent my life without an answer,

4. Shall I say, "Desire gave me free rein,
So I raced in my youth and vigor"?

5. Or shall it be said, "Your youthful days were granted to you,
Yet you were shackled by passion"?

6. Or, "The days of youth are over and the time has come
To bid farewell to your wantonness and vigor"?

7. You remained ignorant while we can clearly see
The havoc of time and death of comrades.

8. This, if ignorance could be an excuse
When the time for reprimand and censure comes.

9. I grieve for the pages I left blank
Due to my laziness and filling them with sin.

10. How can I make excuses for them, when
They are presented to me and my book is laid open?

11. What can I say when I am certain of what
Is written there, when my book is read?

12. God forgive me, veil my sins,
And spare me the shame of that book!

13. If God does not have mercy on me tomorrow,
His punishment is more fitting for me.

14. How could He neglect me when here I am, awake,
My reason restored - so where is my repentance and return?

15. Of no use is my eloquent tongue
If my heart refuses to obey.

16. This pains me more than what I fear,
And I can only hope for guidance from the wise.

17. O soul! The way has narrowed, so beseech
The Merciful, the Bestower with humility.

18. Stand at the door of His endless mercy
That has doused the sighs of many transgressors and criminals.

19. His pardon is enough, and to intercede for me
Is made easier by your poverty and need.

20. And Muhammad, whose intercession is most honorable
Among all messengers, through his way and book.

21. The best of creation, beloved of the Basin
From which the thirsty will drink in the hereafter.

22. Caller of people to guidance, though their hearts
Are veiled by idols when they reach the Gathering.

23. Purifier of the Sacred House with his guiding light
From afflictions and idols.

24. Foremost among messengers and companion of the celestial ascent,
The night journey, and nearing the Lote Tree.

25. The Trustworthy brought him revelation
To guide all humanity through devotion and prayer.

26. Witness the address: "O you enveloped!"
Stop there at the most valuable discourse!

27. He was shown the rulings of prayer, so congregants were blessed,
As well as the imam of the niche.

28. He conveyed them and called people, who responded,
Those foremost in excellence among his companions.

29. He kept calling them, clarifying their guidance
And admonishing their worship of false gods.

30. But they refused and opposed him, and hurt his companions
Out of blasphemy - they persisted in enmity.

31. They came against him at Badr and Uhud with an army
They gathered, allied tribes attacking him.

32. But God supported him with angels
Charging swiftly like steeds.

33. They overpowered his enemies - his stalwart companions
Killing and capturing the hostile forces.

34. Their blasphemy and defiance had made them
Like beasts who saw fierce lions of the jungle.

35. At Badr they lay dead in pockets of sand,
Mounds of embers melted by scorching heat.

36. On the day of the Opening, He brought him the rest of them,
Having faith in him, foremost in belief.

37. He forgave them and gave them amnesty, so they all believed,
As the sun emerges after the clouds disperse.

38. The Guidance, brilliant and clear, will remain with the descendants
Of their forefathers, transmitted through generations.

39. Happy is he who God has decreed in ancestry
To be felicitous, while still in loins.

40. And granted them affection that will lead them
To what protects from all defects.

41. He pardons for God's sake, not for any other cause,
Upholding God's rights without favoritism.

42. Possessor of astounding miracles, as if they are
The rising sun unveiled by clouds.

43. No verse can encompass them - can the shooting stars
Be chronicled in the flowing clouds?

44. God bless him as long as the morning breeze blows
Between slopes and undulating dunes.

45. Or a caravan travels the desert, heading
To the blessed precincts of God's House.

46. Or a longing lover travels from afar
To the precious sanctuary, most honored and noble.

47. Or a lark sings in the twisting valleys,
Comforting one far from loved ones.
